The incident happened at the store on Oulton Rise at 09:30 on Monday. The police have only given details today. They say the man entered the store and collected a basket which he filled with a number of meat products.
As he attempted to leave the store, he was confronted by a member of staff. He lifted a kitchen knife and threatened her before stabbing her in the arm causing a small cut.
The man is described as white, in his early 20s, aroumd 5ft 4ins (1.63m) tall and of medium build. He was wearing a scarf and black jeans and spoke with a local accent.

Knife amnesty in Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire Police is urging people to hand in knives and other items which could be used as weapons during an amnesty which runs from 17-26 June.
People wanting to get rid of a knife or a bladed item is being asked to make an appointment with the police by calling 101. Officers will be available for collections at pre-arranged appointment times on Friday 17, Sunday 19, Friday 24 and Sunday 26 June, between 19:00 and 23:00.

Buildings sales could affect 220 public sector staff in Northampton

About 220 public sector staff would be affected by the sale of five buildings currently owned by Northamptonshire County Council.
Its Guildhall Road and Northwood Centre premises are currently leased to third parties.
The three other buildings - Springfield, Northwood Centre and Norborough House - are all used by children's services and employ 90, 59 and 71 staff respectively.

The 22-year-old left back comes from Swansea City and will join up with the club on 1 July.

The England under 19 international was previously with Blackburn Rovers. After joining Swansea in January 2014, He signed a contract with the Premier League side last summer before leaving the Liberty Stadium at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are helping the police with their enquiries.

Missing Dean Humphrey has not been seen for 11 days.
The 29-year-old was last seen in the Cliftonville Road area of Northampton at about 3.20pm on Friday, 3 June.
Today, Northamptonshire Police have re-issued an appeal for help finding him.
Mr Humphrey, pictured below, is described as black, about 5ft 4in (1.63m) tall, with a medium build.
A 101-year-old man has become one of the oldest people ever to get back on their feet after having had an emergency operation on a broken hip at Kettering Hospital.
George Saxby, from Irchester, ran the family butcher's shop on Rushden's High Street for 36 years until 1982.
He was rushed to hospital on 7 May after a fall at home left him with a hip fracture. Following surgery, he can now walk using a frame.

Signing someone like Alex Revell is a signal of intent for the Cobblers.
He's the first player to arrive this summer with real experience of playing in League One and the Championship, and manager Rob Page will be hoping he can be more like the striker he was at Rotherham, than the one who's struggled during the past 12 months.
At Rotherham, he was promoted from League Two and League One in successive seasons. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...
