FT: Russia 0-3 Wales

I started off this live talking about the limbo Wales could be in if they did not win. 

But I end it reflecting on one of the greatest moments in the history of Welsh football. They were magnificent, admittedly against a woeful opponent, and deserve to be in the knockout stages.

Finishing above England is a nice bonus too. I'll leave you with Dafydd Pritchard's match report from Toulouse...

Also a 3-0 win and 0-0 draw is an easy enough decision to make...

Wales captain Ashley Williams said they could "enjoy the atmosphere and occasion towards the end".

"I had no doubt we'd perform well today. We won't get carried away. But we'll enjoy tonight first.

"Tonight is by far the best [night in a Welsh jersey]."

Wales midfielder Joe Allen: "What a night. It’s one I’ll never forget. We started so well. To win in style is a special moment for Welsh football. 

"We had a disappointment against England but it didn’t affect us. 

"It was all about getting through to the knockout rounds. Who knows [how far Wales can go]? We look forward to seeing who we get in the last 16."

Wales goalscorer Neil Taylor: “It’s nice, you don’t often get games like that where it’s so comfortable.

“It’s unbelievable to score my first Wales goal in the Euros. I did my best to miss it but scored at the second attempt. You could see the energy sap out of them when we scored our second and third goals.”

I watched this press conference, without a translation. I had no idea he had announced his resignation. Whoops.

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey was Uefa's man of the match after scoring the opener.

"It was a fantastic feeling to score in this competition," he said. "We’ve been waiting a long time to be here. 

"We wanted to stand up and be recognised. Against England the occasion maybe got to us in possession. Tonight we wanted to work on that and we passed it brilliantly and could have scored more. We’ve topped the group which nobody probably saw coming.

"Our main target was to get out of the group. To finish top is a fantastic feeling. Hopefully we’ve made the fans proud, you can hear them signing outside. Now we got through, we want to see how far we can go. Anything can happen in 90 minutes."

Gareth Bale has hit 12 shots on target at Euro 2016 - the record for a whole European Championship (since Opta started doing the stats in 1980) is Michel Platini's 15 in 1984.

And Bale obviously has at least one game to break that. And on tonight's performance, it may well be more than one.

Wales forward Gareth Bale: "We knew everything was on this game, it was in our own hands. We said before the game 'let's have no regrets'. 

"It's probably the best performance I've been involved in with Wales. We started very well, we didn't feel too nervous. 

"We want to thank the fans out here and at home.  

"To top the group, what more can you ask?  We said we didn't want to make the numbers up. Well, we can't do any more than win the group. We look forward to seeing who we play next."

Russia manager Leonid Slutsky is speaking to the media now, but he's speaking Russian (presumably) so I can't tell you what he's said. I didn't hear him mention Gareth Bale though surprisingly.

Wales boss Chris Coleman: "In possession, we did everything tonight. I'm made up for the players. I said before that there's more to come for this group. 

"Even after this tournament is over, this group are on the way to something else. I'm just glad me and the staff are here with them. We have no fear. And after playing like that, why should we?"

We have battered them tonight, absolutely battered Russia.

Wales play a third-placed team in Paris St-Germain's Parc des Princes on Saturday at 17:00 BST.

It will be a team from either Group A, C or D. Albania have finished third in Group A, while Northern Ireland and Czech Republic currently hold that spot in the other two.
