A road in Norfolk has been named as the seventh-quietest road in Britain for traffic flow.

The A1062 is a largely rural road, running between the Broadland villages of Hoveton and Potter Heigham.

A single-track road in the Scottish Highlands was named as the quietest, with the A481 in Wales and A3079 in Devon taking second and third place respectively.

The seven quietest roads were identified by Avis Car Rentals, using data from the Department of Transport.

Just when we thought it was all over, the Norwich peregrine falcon tale takes a new twist.

The father of this year's chicks and the lone female, responsible for the death of two of them, are showing courtship behaviour.

It's unlikely that they'll manage to breed successfully as it's too late in the year but the Hawk and Owl Trust thinks they could become a breeding pair in 2017.

The two surviving peregrine falcon chicks were taken into care to protect them from the female. 

The former Conservative party leader, Iain Duncan Smith, took his campaign for the UK to leave the EU on to the streets of King's Lynn today.

Along with the local MP, Sir Henry Bellingham, Mr Duncan Smith greeted market traders and members of the public... although not everyone there was a supporter of Brexit.

A restaurant in the centre of Norwich has closed.

Pizza Hut says it is in discussions about its Orford Place outlet, but could provide no more details about its current closure.

It says customers can visit any one of their other restaurants located at the nearby intu Chapefield shopping centre, Norwich Riverside or Longwater Retail Park.  

However, the Eastern Daily Press is reporting that the American burger chain Five Guys will open its first restaurant in Norwich in the Pizza Hut building.

A Norfolk firefighter paralysed in a freak accident on his stag-do in Magaluf has been forced to postpone his wedding as a result of his injuries.

James Thorpe, 28, and Michaela Watson, from Boston, Lincolnshire, were due to marry this Friday but cancelled the ceremony after Mr Thorpe broke his neck, leaving him paralysed from the chest down.

Mr Thorpe is being treated at Sheffield Spinal Injuries Unit after being flown home from the Spanish holiday resort.

Miss Watson says: "It needs to be perfect and it wouldn't have been... I knew deep down that the day would not go ahead, but I didn't want to take that drive away from James."  

A crowdfunding page to help with her fiance's recovery has so far raised £12,000.

"It would be amazing if James could walk down the aisle... that's what we're praying for and that's what we're aiming for," she says.

There has been a "significant increase" in the number of Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust mental health patients sent out of its area in May, a report to its board has found.

Patients may be sent out of area when there are no suitable beds available at trust facilities.

Year-to-date expenditure on out-of-trust area beds is £530,000 against a full-year plan of £1m. 

The report to its board, meeting on Thursday, says: "If current level of activity was to continue throughout the year, there would be an overspend of around £2m against plan."

Norfolk's new police and crime commissioner has announced on BBC Radio Norfolk that he's setting up a youth commission to tackle problems in schools.

Lorne Green has started an eight-week consultation to find out what people want from the police force over the next four years. He says since starting five weeks ago, he's found £1.3m of savings from switching buildings being used by the police.

When asked by a caller on the Nick Conrad show what he intended to do about bullying, drug-dealing and revenge porn in schools, Mr Green said he would set up a youth commission so that young people could tell him their concerns and that their issues could be addressed.

Nine people arrested following a disturbance in Norwich at the weekend have been released on police bail.

Shortly before 19:30 on Sunday, officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Motum Road involving a group of up to 30 people.

A 17-year-old girl, a 29-year-old woman, and seven men aged 19, 27, 28, 32, 33, 36 and 38 were all arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. 

All have been released on police bail pending further inquires until 7 July. 

There's no lack of ambition here in Great Yarmouth today, with the aim to make the resort's air show the biggest event in the region.

It's a bold initiative when you look at what happened to the popular Lowestoft Air Festival (pictured) just a few miles down the coast.

In good weather that would attract crowds of well over 250,000 - but the event ended in 2012.

It had no entry fee and got into financial problems, because voluntary donations from people attending the event didn't raise enough to cover the costs.

Gareth Brown, chairman of the Greater Yarmouth Tourism Business Improvement Area, says the town is a "big destination worthy of a big event" and that is proud to share its plans to stage what is set to become one of the biggest events in the region.

Mr Brown praised support received from the borough council and from emergency services in planning the event.

A highly-experienced flight display director has already assessed the seafront, and the show will be dealing with the Civil Aviation Authority over flying regulations.

The four-day event is scheduled for 15-18 June 2017. 

"We've got the seafront to deliver a fantastic show... there's lot of space, a great beach and critically it's pretty straight - you don't want big bays or curves, you want a straight seafront which gives lots of opportunities to view."

This is what Asa Morrison told me in December when the idea of a seafront air show for Great Yarmouth was very much at the "pencilled-in" stage.

Mr Morrison, of the Greater Yarmouth Business Improvement Area, told me a "reasonably big air show" was within the capabilities of the town, and could bring economic benefits for Norfolk and and north Suffolk.  

He said challenges faced over the next few months involved infrastructure, how to move people in and out, sponsorship and how to make enough money to sustain the event: "We're talking big figures to make an air show happen... the benefits are huge if we can make it work." 

It looks like they have made it happen - the four-day event is scheduled to take place between 15-18 June next year, between the spring half-term break and the start of the school summer holiday season.

Organisers say the Great Yarmouth Air Show will be the biggest event to be held in the borough, and is expected to attract 300,000 visitors, giving a £10m boost to the local economy.

It's being staged by Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement District (BID) as part of its drive to bring more visitors and spending power to the borough.

 It's hoped that by its third year the seafront event will generate more than £20m and will be self-sustaining through the income it generates, including sponsorship and the park-and-ride operation.

Serious money - about £450,000 - is being invested in ensuring its success.

The launch of the Great Yarmouth Air Show got off to a flying start a short time ago, with this aerial display by the smoke-trailing Twister team.

Event director Asa Morrison says the show is a huge opportunity for the town, providing a major economic boost through tourism, as well as providing a free event for local residents.

Great Yarmouth is to get its first ever major air show, it has just been announced.

Military and civilian aircraft will take to the skies in the four-day event from 15-18 June next year, with evening displays on Thursday and Friday, and afternoon displays at the weekend.

The seaside show is expected to attract up to 300,000 people, who will be able to watch the aerial displays from the town's Golden Mile seafront and sands.
