What an incredible finale to Group F. Portugal stay alive after a six-goal thriller and Iceland, who are in unknown waters in France, have booked a last 16 clash with England in Nice on Monday night. We're off to catch our breath. Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland are in action in Group E. You can catch that here.

  2. Careful now

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

Here is a warning for England...

Roy Hodgson's side may have dominated possession and shots in their three group games, but in the last 16 they will be facing a side who have made an art of getting results from matches in which they have been (in stats terms) dominated.

Austria had just short of 70% possession and 23 shots to Iceland's 11 at the Stade de France but still lost.

The average positions of the players gives some idea of the balance of play...

Tom Chance: Roy Hodgson's tactical masterplan to draw with Slovakia to avoid 3rd place Portugal and get 2nd place Iceland instead.

Louie: I've never seen England go out on penalties to a Scandinavian country before, will certainly be a new experience.

  5. The race for third...

    Third

Four third-place teams go through - and three have been decided: Slovakia, Portugal and Northern Ireland.

Turkey occupy the final spot, but will wait to see if one of Belgium, Sweden or the Republic of Ireland from Group E can do enough to usurp them.

If a Group E team does qualify from third position, then Wales will face Northern Ireland in the last 16.

If a Group E team doesn't qualify from third position, then Wales will face Turkey and Northern Ireland play France.

    Got it? Good.

Simon Bignell: I reckon Iceland are happy to be playing England. They will be thinking they can win that one too.

John Petty: With Iceland's record of parking the bus and England's inability to break down a defence I guess we better all prepare for penalties.

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

    Danny Mills

Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

A good result for England. Realistically they could get to the quarter-finals without playing a team of any real quality.

    Roy Hodgson
  11. The last meeting

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

The last time England played Iceland was in 2004. Wayne Rooney scored twice in a 6-1 England win. You can read about it here.

Sean: I've never celebrated an Iceland goal before. I have now.

Michael: Everyone is saying it's better for England to face Iceland... But is it? Who has played better? Iceland or Portugal?

Luke: The England squad far more suited to countering attacking sides. Iceland will sit deep, we will struggle!

  13. Post update

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

Former England winger Trevor Sinclair on BBC Radio 5 live: "They won't be worried about playing England. They will be happy to defend as a group and when they get a chance, they have been quite good in front of goal."

  14. Portugal to face Croatia

    Hungary 3-3 Portugal

Portugal end the group stage without a win but do make it through to the knockout stages and will meet Croatia in Lens (20:00 BST) on Saturday.

  15. 'Beware Iceland'

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

    Thierry Henry

Former France International on BBC One

The two games were great because all four teams could go through. I don't understand why Portugal didn't try to win the game late on.

We knew Ronaldo would score at some point.

It won't be easy for England against Iceland. You guys are scared of Portugal but Iceland - be careful...

  16. Post update

England have met Iceland twice before - the last occasion 12 years ago when Wayne Rooney scored twice in a 6-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

  17. 'It has lifted us'

    Iceland 2-1 Austria

    Rio Ferdinand

    Former England defender

What a couple of games! It has lifted this room because we were worried about England v Portugal. It is a far better proposition for England to play Iceland
