Brendan Cox, the widower of Jo Cox the MP shot and stabbed to death last week, has said he believes his wife was killed because of her political views.

"She was a politician and she had very strong political views and I believe she was killed because of those views. I think she died because of them and she would want to stand up for those in death as much as she did in life."

In a pooled interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, Mr Cox also said his wife was concerned about the tone of the referendum debate.

"She definitely... worried about the tone of the debate... Not that it's not a legitimate debate to have and that there aren't completely legitimate views on both sides of the debate. 

"She completely respected that people could disagree for very good reason. But more about the tone of whipping up fears and whipping up hatred potentially."

A man jailed in France for allegedly throwing a bottle at police is totally innocent, his father says.

Chris Booth says he and his son Alex from Holmfirth were preparing to watch the England v Russia game in a fanzone in Marseille when the arrest happened. 

Alex, who turned 20 the day after the arrest, has been jailed for two months. His father says they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time:

Bradford's notorious Ointment gang of football hooligans has been branded “a rag-bag of thugs” by a judge who has now sentenced five former members to a total of almost 17 years imprisonment.

Recorder Duncan Smith said the group’s objective was to “mete out violence unlawfully and indiscriminately” under the pretence of supporting Bradford City Football Club.

A Conservative councillor has been suspended over an offensive Facebook post he wrote mocking fundraising in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Above a link to an article about the fund reaching more than £1m, Dominic Peacock wrote "I've just donated", before making an offensive comment.

The East Riding of Yorkshire councillor later deleted it and said: "I shouldn't have put it on in the first place".

Stuart McCall says Bradford are a "perfect fit" for him as he starts his second spell as manager of the League One club.

McCall first took charge following the Bantams' relegation to League Two in May 2007, but quit in February 2010 with his side 16th in the table.

The 52-year-old has since managed Rangers and Motherwell, and left his role as Scotland coach to rejoin City.

As the total raised by the Jo Cox memorial fund soars, the charities set to benefit have welcomed the public's generosity.

A special service to remember Jo Cox is being held in Huddersfield tonight.

It's taking place at Huddersfield Parish Church where a sculpture made of lights to shine in the dark is being made by the congregation. 

It follows a day of emotional tributes in Westminster yesterday led by the Speaker of the House John Bercow with Jeremy Corbyn the first to speak.

Health chiefs in part of West Yorkshire are insisting that big changes to NHS services will benefit patients. 

The public consultation on the measures which could see accident and emergency services being transferred from Huddersfield to Halifax ends at midnight.

Campaigners opposing the move are already considering a legal challenge over the way it's been conducted.

Bradford's Hindu Cultural Society observed one minute silence in the memory of Jo Cox MP.

The chairman of the Hindu Cultural Society Kamal Sharma highlighted her contribution as a Member of Parliament and her work for her constituents and the wider community.

Special prayers were offered at Sunday service for Mrs Cox and the society conveyed their grief to the Cox family for the loss of a "brilliant person, politician and dedicated servant of the community".

Rapidly rising virtuoso singer-songwriter and musician AJ Brown has been invited to support music legend Burt Bacharach as part of his UK tour.

AJ, who hails from Rishworth will support the six-time Grammy Award winner and two-time Academy Award winner on four dates at the end of June and into July.

In a speech in Manchester Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn recalls yesterday's parliamentary tributes to Labour MP Jo Cox saying it was a "very, very sad day".

A public consultation into the controversial reorganisation of hospital services in Halifax and Huddersfield ends today.

Campaigners have warned that the changes could cost lives - but Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust says it will actually improve care.
