  1. Good night from the BBC Local as councils in the greater Bristol area vote to support the idea of a Metro Mayor

    We'll have all the reaction tomorrow morning to tonight's decision by three councils in the greater Bristol area to support the idea of a £1bn devolution package and the appointment of a Metro Mayor for the area.

    That's all from BBC Local Live for the West of England, we're back tomorrow from 7am.

  2. Metro Mayor: Two West councils accept devolution deal

    Both Bristol City Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council have voted to accept a single directly-elected Metro Mayor for the West of England. 

    In Bristol, 59 councillors were in favour, five abstained and two were against. 

    South Gloucestershire councillors are still in their meeting this evening and are yet to vote.  

    North Somerset Council has already voted against the idea.   

    The deal goes to public consultation before being passed back to parliament in October.

  6. Dog rescued from puppy farm looking for a foster home

    Amy was taken to St Giles Animal Rescue in Taunton after being recovered from a puppy farm.

    She's now being cared for by a couple in Portishead, near Bristol, until a new home can be found for her.

    Chantal Bryan, from Chippenham, was 36 weeks pregnant when she had a car accident. Her son, Jonathan, now 10, was born with some of the "worst brain injuries doctors had ever seen" and has locked-in syndrome. 

    Mum Chantal said when she looked at him as a baby "there was something about him". 

    She and Jonathan's dad taught him to communicate with his eyes, using a spelling board. He's now written to the government urging it to make sure all disabled children learn to read and write. 

  8. Dickie and Jane celebrate 70 years of marriage

    Richard "Dickie" Arscott married Jane Dare Knibbs on the 29th June 1946, 70 years ago today.

    The couple, who now live in Cirencester, married in Bournemouth after a six week courtship.

    They have five children, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, with a third due in two weeks.

    Richard was in the RAF and played a big part in the Berlin Air Lift. Now at 90 and 91 they both remain independent and busy.

  9. 'You can get married at 16 but you can't vote'

    A group of teenagers who were too young to vote in the EU Referendum are staging a protest in Bristol tonight. 

    They say they are "robbed of their rights" and the outcome may have been different if those under-18 had been given a chance to go to the polls.

    The fate of a billion pound devolution deal for Bristol and its neighbouring councils will be decided this evening. 

    The government's offering £30m pounds a year over 30 years, so long as an elected "Metro Mayor" is introduced. 

    Councillors from Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol are all meeting to vote on it this evening.

    North Somerset Council has already voted against the idea

  12. Marauding heron at Prior Park in Bath

    This heron has taken over a coot's nest at Prior Park in Bath - and doesn't want to give it up.

    Staff at the National Trust sent us this footage showing the nest's new resident.

  13. Banksy SWAT van sells for £180,000 at auction

    A piece of art spray-painted by Bristol artist Banksy has just sold for £180,000.

    The artwork had a guide price of £200,000 to £300,000, and hasn't been seen by the public since it was featured in a show in Los Angeles in 2006, where Banksy made his American debut.

    The total for the buyer will be £218,000 with fees. 

    But he or she won't be able to drive it home as it doesn't come with an engine.

  14. Liam Fox to stand for Tory leader

    North Somerset MP Liam Fox has confirmed he is standing for the Conservative Party leadership.

    Dr Fox is a former defence secretary and was prominent in the Leave campaign.

    He's the latest senior Tory to throw his hat into the ring after cabinet minister Stephen Crabb launched his campaign earlier.

    Sources close to Dr Fox confirmed he would stand for the leadership again, having lost to David Cameron in 2005.

    A group of criminology students from the University of Gloucestershire were on a field trip with Florida police when they were called to the Pulse nightclub on the night of the shooting.

    One of the women helped administer first aid and has spoken for the first time since the event.

    She has asked to remain anonymous and issued a statement through the university. She said she "wasn't a hero" and "just did what needed to be done".
