More now on talks which are under way over plans to widen Tadcaster Bridge, which was badly damaged in the Christmas floods.

The bridge, which is 300 years old, partially collapsed on 29 December last year.

Now, North Yorkshire County Council has created artist’s impressions of what the bridge would look like if proposals to widen it are approved.

The council says says it's in discussions with Historic England, prior to making an application for planning and listed building consent.

If the plan goes ahead, millions of pounds are set to be spent on strengthening the bridge and widening the footpaths and improving the lighting.

For 25 years a group of Yorkshire friends have been meeting every few months for a hike through the countryside of North Yorkshire.

Clare Balding met up with them as they tackled one of their favourite routes across the horse racing gallops of Middleham in Wensleydale.

The first three weeks of a summer drink and drug driving crackdown has so far seen 100 arrests, North Yorkshire Police says.

So far, 83 men and 17 women have been held for driving under the influence of drink or drugs in the county.

This an almost a 30% increase on the number of arrests made in the first three weeks of last year's campaign, according to the North Yorkshire force.

Nearly a third of those held were for drug driving offences. 

A vigil has been held in Birstall, exactly a week after West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox was killed.

The Batley and Spen Labour MP and mother-of-two was shot and stabbed outside her constituency surgery in Birstall last Thursday.

Local residents came together to link hands from the time she was attacked last Thursday to the time she died.

A man accused of murdering Yorkshire Labour MP Jo Cox has appeared before a judge at the Old Bailey for a second time.

The Batley and Spen MP, 41, was shot and stabbed in Birstall, West Yorkshire, on 16 June.

The 52-year-old is also charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

A young pony has been found with maggot-infested wounds near Selby. 

The animal charity World Horse Welfare and the RSPCA are appealing for information after the horse was reported by a member of the public in Hillam in May.

The pony is recovering in the care of the World Horse Welfare charity.

Field officer Sarah Tucker said it was the "most horrific case of neglect" she'd seen in years.

Researchers have found that a rare species of moth can now only be found on a heath in York. 

The Dark Bordered Beauty is described as "very special and charismatic" and numbers have be falling in recent years.

Researchers say it's important to protect the moth which has been observed and admired at Strensall Common for well over a century.  

Jono Leadley from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust says maintaining the best conditions for the Dark Bordered Beauty to survive is a "tricky balance". 

He says the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust "uses rare breed livestock to do this”.

There's so much history around us in North Yorkshire and often it's right under our feet.

One of the county's particularly rich sources is Towton near Tadcaster.

The Battle of Towton, fought more than 500 years ago, has been described as  the "bloodiest battle in history".

Today, though, I've been at the site of an attempt to dig - quite literally - even deeper into Towton's past, with a 5m trench being dug in an effort to find a Roman road.

More now on the news that 5,000 dogs have been reported stolen to police forces in England and Wales since 2013. 

Figures obtained by the BBC show 800 of those cases were in Yorkshire, with 82 in North Yorkshire.

Nicki Oakley, from the organisation Dog Lost, which reunites dogs with their owners, says the problem could actually be much worse than these figures suggest:

Supermarket vouchers have replaced prescriptions for some people in North Yorkshire who suffer from coeliac disease.

People with the auto-immune condition can't eat foods containing things like wheat and barley.

To help coeliac sufferers, gluten free alternatives are prescribed by the NHS, but now doctors in the Vale of York have started handing out vouchers.

They say it will save money and give patients more flexibility.  

The A614 in Howden is currently closed and there's queuing traffic in both directions between the A614 Thorpe Road junction and Howden Spur Roundabout because of an accident involving two vehicles.  

It's exactly a week today since Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall near Leeds.

The effects of her killing are still being felt around the world as well as closer to home, where yesterday Mrs Cox was remembered in vigils at York's Millennium Bridge and Scarborough's North Bay.

Another vigil is due to be held later at the spot where the MP was killed, to mark one week since her death.

The church in Birstall, West Yorkshire, has asked people to "join together and link hands" in the town's market place from 12:50, the time Mrs Cox was attacked, until 13:50, the time she died.

There has been a rise in the number of dog thefts reported to the police in Yorkshire. 

A BBC investigation found almost 800 have been stolen since 2013, and 82 of those cases were in North Yorkshire.

In total more than 5,000 dogs have been reported stolen to police forces in England and Wales since 2013.
