  8. Apple patents concert camera blocker

A concert with people holding smartphones aloft

Having your view of the stage blocked by someone too busy looking through their smartphone to watch the show has become a fact of gig-going life - but a new patent from Apple suggests technology could one day prevent fans using their phone cameras at concerts.

The patent describes a smartphone camera receiving coded infrared signals beamed from emitters in public places.

The handset could then offer on-screen information or disable the camera functionality to stop pictures being taken.

Fans might not be keen but it could please artists from Jack White to Foals, who've tried to curb the trend by issuing a "no photos" warning at their gigs.

    Rihanna

Music fans have had to withstand their fair share of rain over the last week before being rewarded with their gig of choice - from Glastonbury to Beyonce's delayed show in Sunderland on Tuesday. But Rihanna decided fans queuing in the rain outside her Manchester show last night deserved another reward - free pizza!

It seems she sent fans outside Old Trafford 20 boxes of the cheesy treat, some of them signed by the singer herself, along with some much-needed towels.

Fan Daniel Reading, 24, told Manchester Evening News: "We couldn't believe it. The pizza was only sent to our side of the queue.

"It was sent with a message from Rihanna, apologising for the weather".

  18. Jamie T returns with brand new track Tinfoil Boy

    Jamie T

Jamie T premiered his brand new track Tinfoil Boy on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show last night.

The singer, whose real name is Jamie Treays, had tweeted fans with news of an imminent new single yesterday - which is now available to buy and stream.

It follows last year's EP Magnolia Melancholia and third album Carry On the Grudge, which came out in 2014 after a break of five years.

Speaking to Annie Mac about his Hottest Record, he revealed the rockier-than-usual track originated during a session in Detroit:

Quote Message: It was recorded in a different place under slightly different rules which helped it sound a bit different. Hopefully that comes across. I wanted to put something out that was kind of... claustrophobic is the word. I was playing around with a lot of pedals and I was listening a lot to Rage Against The Machine's album and just getting blown away by how exciting it is. That explains the rockiness of it for sure.

Listen to the full chat and the track below for more details on what he's been up to and what's coming next.
