How our councils are going to cope with the new £1 coin
Philippa Taylor
BBC Local Live
Yesterday we brought you news that Suffolk Coastal and Waveney councils are going to have to change their pay-and-display parking machines sooner than they'd hoped - because the new £1 coin which comes into circulation next year isn't recognised by the current machines.

It made me wonder how our other councils will cope, so I phoned and asked them:
Babergh and Mid-Suffolk: “We are aware of the potential issue and are working with the suppliers of our ticket machines to ensure our customers can continue to use our car parks without interruption”
St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath: "We have just over 100 car park machines and these are in the process of being upgraded which involves new computer coding at a cost of £58 for each machine"
Ipswich: "We are aware of the new coins and will ensure that customers will be able to use the machines"

Eye specialist's trial hears from expert
Kevin Burch
BBC Look East
The jury at Ipswich Crown Court has been hearing evidence from Professor Bruce Evans, who's an expert on optometry.
He was asked to comment on the defendant Honey Rose's claim (see 11:27 post on this page) that it was down to her discretion how much information she recorded about the examination of eight-year-old Vinnie Barker, who died five months later.
He said that with a young child, an optometrist was often juggling many things adding, "It is slightly unfair for a practitioner to be criticised for not recording findings in the same way."
He agreed with Jonathan Rees QC, prosecuting, that for an optometrist to fail to properly examine the back of the eye would be a breach of duty.
Asked how much of a breach, he said it fell far below the standard required, but didn't share the view of another expert who had described it as "rock bottom".
The trial has finished for the day and will resume tomorrow morning.
