  2. Gloucestershire school 'Inadequate'

    Coln House Residential Special School, in Fairford has been rated as inadequate in an Ofsted report and placed in special measures.

    Concerns had been raised about a lack of staff training at the school which caters for 35 pupils with complex learning difficulties.

  4. Evensong given a make-over

    It's the first time in more then 700 years that Evensong has been given a make-over.

    Pupils from Salisbury's Exeter House Special School were given permission to come up with their own take on the ancient liturgy.

    This evening they will be joined by the choristers at Salisbury Cathedral School for a debut performance.

  5. County Championship: Trescothick and Trego hundreds boost Somerset

    Marcus Trescothick and Peter Trego both made centuries to drag Somerset back into contention with Middlesex on day three of the County Championship match.

    Division One leaders Middlesex, who were bowled out for 381 at Taunton to lead by 145, looked in charge when they reduced Somerset to 59-3 and 126-4.

    But Trescothick, who made 124, and Trego, still there on 115, shared 181 to leave the contest in the balance.

    Somerset closed on 348-6, an advantage of 203 runs.

  6. Smoke warning as fire rages in Swindon

    People living in the Thornhill Road area of South Marston are being recommended to keep doors and windows closed following a blaze at a derelict industrial unit.

    Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said significant smoke is rising from the scene and this could be an issue for anyone with a pre-existing respiratory problem.

    Anyone concerned that they may have been affected by the smoke should call NHS 111 or seek other medical advice.

  7. Rio gymnast's parents 'over the moon'

    Bristol gymnast Claudia Fragapane has been named in the Great Britain squad for the Rio Olympics.

    And her parents - Teresa and Paolo - are "over the moon".

  8. Student cleared of extreme porn charge

    A student cleared of raping a woman at a university's summer ball has been found not guilty of possessing extreme pornography. 

    No evidence was offered by prosecutors against Thady Duff, 22, a student at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester.

    Mr Duff of Stubbs Hill Farm, Blunsdon had been accused of storing the images on his mobile phone. 

  9. Daniel O'Shaughnessy: Cheltenham sign Finland international after Brentford release

    Cheltenham Town have signed Finland international centre-back Daniel O'Shaughnessy after a two-week trial.

    The 21-year-old has won two caps, although he has dual nationality with the Republic of Ireland.

    O'Shaughnessy spent the last two seasons with Championship club, having joined them from French club Metz.

    He did not make a first-team appearance for the Bees, and spendt time on loan with National League club Braintree and in Denmark with Midtylland.

  11. Gloucestershire's PCC 'stood up' by Theresa May

    They were due to meet tomorrow but now Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl has a blank space in his diary.

    Theresa May - in the wake of the Conservative leadership result - is heading off for an audience with the Queen instead and has "stood Mr Surl up".

    Mr. Surl said, “Given the constitutional significance of her meeting with Her Majesty I’m not surprised I got bounced off".

    BBC Four's Trainspotting Live will follow engineer Dick Strawbridge as he hunts for a special example of the famous Intercity 125 in Swindon, 

    It's on at 8pm tonight - or you can catch it on the BBC iPlayer afterwards.

  13. Kayleigh-Anne Palmer: Case review

    Kayleigh-Anne Palmer was pregnant when she was murdered by her boyfriend, despite reports to the police, social services and medics.

    A serious case review has now revealed authorities missed the signs of the 16-year-old being at risk when she was killed by Aston Robinson in 2014.

  14. Bristol gymnasts named in GB Olympic squad

    Two of the West's gymnasts have been selected for Great Britain at the Rio Olympics.

    Claudia Fragapane, 18, from Bristol won four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two years ago. 

    She's joined by Ruby Harrold, 20, who trains in Portishead.  

  15. Students' left-overs up for grabs

    It's summer break and most Bristol University and UWE students have now left the city - leaving behind them a great mountain of stuff.

    Last year 70 tonnes of student paraphernalia was donated to charities and this year is no different.

    Tom Garrod, from Bristol Hub, said they don't want it to go to landfill but to go to good causes.

  16. Man found dead at house in Wells Road named as Kamil Ahmad

    A 49-year-old man who died after an incident at a house in the Knowle area of Bristol has been named.

    Avon and Somerset Police were called to the house on Wells Road in the early hours of Thursday to find the body of Kamil Ahmad.

    Jeffery Barry, 55, of Wells Road, was charged with murder and remanded in custody over the weekend.

    A Russian adventurer has successfully launched his Bristol-made hot air balloon in an attempt to become the fastest person to fly around the world non-stop. 

    Fedor Konyukhov took off inside a Cameron Balloon from Western Australia this morning. 

    Helping him on the ground was the company's owner Don Cameron and other members of his Bristol team.

  18. Dozens arrested after police raids in Weston

    Early this morning the homes of 18 drug dealers, known to police, were raided in Weston-super-Mare. 24 people were arrested.

    Police said a significant quantity of Class A drugs and a large amount of cash was seized.
