A woman whose patio table exploded in the sun says "it just went off like a bomb".

Lynn (who's asked us not to use her second name) told BBC Suffolk her husband had been in a chair beside the table just minutes beforehand, but had gone to the garage to get something.

She said: "As he was walking through the door there was an almighty bang and the glass-topped table had completely exploded into shards. 

"It wasn't cracks, they were tiny, tiny pieces, and it's a six seater table so you can imagine if anybody had been sitting anywhere near it, it would have caused serious damage... it just went off like a bomb."

Following on from our earlier comments from an Ipswich resident that there are too many beggars in the town, I've been speaking to Gary, who has been homeless since February, and who doesn't think there's been an increase in the number of people begging here.

He said: "There's new faces, there's always someone different, people move on." 

He added that he doesn't ask for money, he busks, playing his guitar and singing, and people do give him money for that.

"It's nice that people spare a moment, talk to you, make you feel human again," he said, adding that it's "an acknowledgement that you're still human. You're just going through a hard patch."

An Ipswich resident says there are too many beggars on the streets of the town, and it's putting off shoppers.

Martin Clarke wrote to the East Anglian Daily Times at the weekend on the subject, and spoke to BBC Suffolk today.

He said: "I had about five occasions within a one hour period where people were either lying in the street or outside cash machines requesting money or loose change from me.

"I think it blights the walkways and the roads in the town centre and makes areas look a mess and if I was a shop owner I wouldn't want someone hanging outside my shop window or entrance asking people for change."

It'll remain hot and sunny this evening and stay warm and humid overnight, with temperatures staying around 20C (68F) for most of the region.

Wednesday will be another hot and sunny day with temperatures reaching up to 30C (86F). It'll stay dry but there'll be a little more cloud in the afternoon, and there's a low risk of an isolated thunderstorm later in the day.

A Suffolk man's been left with nothing after falling prey to scammers. 

The victim, whose identity hasn't been revealed, lost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Sasha Watson from Suffolk Trading Standards said he'd been contacted by post and email: "It was an inheritance scam, so the idea is that you were contacted and told that you're entitled to inheritance.

"Communications went on between this gentleman and the scammer for some time and he had to keep paying for different admins, things like that, and in the end he actually lost over £424,000."

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene of a serious fire in north Suffolk into the evening.

The blaze (pictured at its height) broke out at an agricultural business in Metfield in the early hours of this morning.

Around 100 firefighters have tackled it since it began. It was brought under control earlier this morning, and no-one was injured, but crews are remaining until it goes out.

Patients and ward staff at the West Suffolk Hospital have been keeping cool thanks to a delivery of ice lollies arranged by the catering team.

Patient Viv Stewart, from Honington, said she thought the lollies were a great idea.

Before anyone accuses them of leading their patients astray, the hospital says the lollies are made from 100% fruit with no added sugar or colour and contain only 18 calories, which means they're suitable for everyone.

I'm sure the pier at Felixstowe would be really busy - if it wasn't closed at the moment.

Dave Greengrass (pictured right) claims his beach hut in Felixstowe is world-famous. 

He bought it 11 years ago and when it needed repainting seven years later he opted for something different to the "normal pastels".

"An old boy asked me if I bought the last pot of paint in the shop," he said. 

Now, Mr Greengrass, who lives in Stowmarket, say people regularly stop to have their photo taken next to it.

A new man is taking control of RAF Lakenheath with a special Change of Command Ceremony.

Col Evan Pettus (pictured) takes over from Col  Robert Novotny, who's leaving after two years at the USAF base in Suffolk.

Col Pettus, who will oversee the work of the military personnel and civilians of the 48th Fighter Wing, is no stranger to Suffolk: "I was here from January 1997 to December 1999 as an F15E pilot.

"It was a really enjoyable adventure... we learned to love England and Suffolk."

As expected at the beginning of the day, Suffolk's cricketers fell to a third straight loss in the Minor Counties Championship.

Having set Lincolnshire a victory target of 98 in Cleethorpes, the home side scored the runs required for the loss of 4 wickets.

The Court of Appeal in Luxembourg upheld the decision by the District Court to extradite Ali Qazimaj to the UK.

Mr Qazimaj has been arrested in connection with the murders of Peter and Syliva Stuart, from Weybread, Suffolk. 

Mr Stuart was found dead in Weybread on 3 June, while Mrs Stuart is yet to be found.

Mr Qazimaj, 42, from Tilbury, Essex, appealed against the original decision on 7 July.  

A spokesman for the Court of Appeal said he will be surrendered to the British authorities on Thursday.

In a statement, Suffolk Police said: “Suffolk and Norfolk Constabulary Joint Major Investigation Team is aware of the decision made in Luxembourg and are working with colleagues on the continent to bring him back to the UK in due course. 

"He will then be subject to legal process in the UK.”
