    TOMORROW: A cloudy damp start with patchy rain at first, slowly brightening up with sunny spells developing, together with the risk of a heavy shower. Maximum temperature 23C (73F).

  3. Watch: Sheffield gears up for Tramlines

    For the eighth year in a row the Tramlines Festival is taking over the city. 

    It's changed a lot over the years it's been here. 

    It started as a free festival and last year the main stage swapped locations from Devonshire Green to the Ponderosa.

  5. When summer's over, take your vitamins

    Everyone should consider taking vitamin D supplements in autumn and winter, scientists have recommended. 

    One in five people have insufficient vitamin D levels, according to a review chaired by Professor Hilary Powers at Sheffield university. 

    The report says we need to triple our daily intake to maintain healthy bones. But officials say that can't be done through diet alone, particularly in darker months.

  6. More good news: Missing George found

    Police have confirmed that missing 84-year-old George Rodgers from Sheffield has been found this afternoon.

    He was spotted by a member of the public in the grounds of a church in the Ecclesfield area. Officers are now with him.

    Police have said a 'massive thank you to everyone who helped share the appeal to find George and who offered information to help the search'.

  7. A story with a happy ending

    When Doris Wilcock from Sheffield was burgled at the age of 90, she never thought she'd see any of her much treasured jewellery again. 

    But three years on she's been reunited with some of it after it was found buried in some woods by some children out playing. Today, I took Doris - who's now 93 - to meet the youngsters who made the discovery so she could thank them.

  8. 'Freedom Riders' take on transport authority over cuts

    Travellers upset with proposed changes to bus services across Barnsley got together for a protest today.  

    The 'Freedom Riders' group, says any changes could leave some people with a diminished service. 

    The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive says its consulting on the changes and will take into consideration feedback from passengers.

  9. South Yorkshire Police worst force for fitness

    BBC Look North, Yorkshire

    Officers at South Yorkshire Police have the worst fitness levels in the country, according to data released today

    Five per cent of the force's officers failed the compulsory test - a higher rate than anywhere else. 

    The annual check involves a bleep test, which involves a series of shuttle runs which get progressively faster.

  10. Sheffield’s 60-year Chinese investment deal built on ‘years of trust’

    The deal between Sheffield City Council and Sichuan Guodong Construction Group has been over 18 months in the making. Mr Wang, Chairman of the Board and President of Sichuan Guodong Construction Group, has visited Sheffield a number of times.

  12. Increase your vitamin D says official health advice

    Scientists from the University of Sheffield have warned we need to triple our daily vitamin D intake to maintain healthy bones in a new report issued to the government today.

    Sunshine across Peak District

    Groups most at risk of vitamin D deficiency include:

    • People who don’t spend a lot of time outdoors - such as the elderly
    • Ethnic minority groups with darker skin, which doesn’t make vitamin D as easily
    • Those who cover their skin for religious and cultural reasons
    • People in occupations with limited sunlight exposure – such as night shift workers
  13. Rotherham MP calls on government to 'Get a grip on online child abuse'

  15. Virgin Trains East Coast to axe up to 46 jobs, union claims

    Virgin Trains East Coast is planning to axe up to 46 jobs at travel centres and train stations along the East Coast Main Line route, including Leeds and Wakefield according to a union.

    The company wants to replace its travel centres with open plan "customer zones", the Transport Salaried Staffs Association said.

    Other stations at Doncaster, London King's Cross, Edinburgh, Peterborough, York and Newcastle could be affected.

  16. Watch: Sheffield a city with 'big potential'

    The agreement between the City Council and The Sichuan Guodong Construction Group is the largest Chinese investment for any UK city outside of London. 

    The initial phase will see £220m spent on projects in the city centre over the next three years.
