  1. Goodbye: Five things we learnt today

    David Ward

    BBC Local Live, York

Thanks for being with us today, we'll be back at 07:00 tomorrow.

In the meantime, let's look back at a few things that we didn't know at the beginning of the day:

    1. The number of migrants coming to North Yorkshire will fall following the Brexit vote - that's according to immigration minister and North Yorkshire MP Robert Goodwill
    2. Travel centre staff working at York Railway Station may go on strike over plans to replace them with "customer zones", according to one union
    3. Who knew a structure that just looks like two vertical logs holding up three horizontal logs could be the answer to flooding in one part of North Yorkshire?
    4. You can make sure you're never caught short by owning your own block of public toilets in the Scarborough district
    5. Yorkshire still have a chance of making it through to the quarter-finals of the T20 Blast thanks largely to a batsman from Whitby who plays for Scarborough

See you tomorrow! For now, I'll leave you with this pic, sent in by BBC Weather Watcher Picture It Pete looking down the River Derwent in Malton.

  2. Parklife: York's parks among England's finest

    David Ward

    BBC Local Live, York

On this lovely Thursday afternoon, I'd expect parks across North Yorkshire to be pretty popular, especially with the schools starting to break up for the summer hols.

Well, four in York are celebrating after being named among Britain's very best green spaces and given a prestigious Green Flag by Keep Britain Tidy.

Rowntree Park, West Bank, Rawcliffe Country Park and Glen Gardens (all pictured below) now join the city's Clarence Gardens flying the Green Flag.

The awards are judged by 700 "green space experts", who visit sites and assess them against eight criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

  3. Sport: Lyth hails 'unbelievable' win

    David Ward

    BBC Local Live, York

Scarborough's Adam Lyth has been talking about his memorable innings against Durham in the T20 Blast at Headingley last night.

The opening batsman (pictured) hit 87, the highest score of his career, to help the Vikings move up to fifth in the North Group.

    Adam Lyth

"It was an unbelievable win. Me and Dave Willey set the tone getting 70-odd in the power play. Whoever came in kept going," says Lyth.

"[York's] Jack Leaning came in, cleared the ropes at the end and played a great knock.

"I wanted to take it as deep as possible but go hard and keep playing my shots. It's such a fine line this game."

    T20 Blast table

Yorkshire still need to win their final two games, both against Northamptonshire, to stand a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals. The first of those is tomorrow night at Headingley.

  8. Station staff jobs 'under threat' at York

    Cara Thorpe

    BBC Radio York News

Rail staff working in travel centres at stations on the East Coast Mainline, including York, face having their jobs cut, a union is warning.

The TSSA union says Virgin Trains East Coast is looking at replacing the centres with open-plan "customer zones" where staff will advise and help passengers buy tickets via machines.

    Virgin Trains East Coast

The union claims 15% of staff will be affected, which would lead to the loss of 31 travel centre jobs and 15 station staff. They're also warning about the possibility of industrial action.

We've put in a call to Virgin for a comment and will report back with what they have to say as soon as we get it.

  9. RFL to 'work closely' York Knights over ground

    BBC Sport

The Rugby Football League says it'll work closely with York City Knights to help them with their current ground problems.

The Knights have cancelled Sunday's Super 8s game with Doncaster after being told Bootham Crescent won't be available.

City of York Council says the Knights were informed of this initially in May.

An RFL Spokesperson says they have spoken to the club and "will continue to work closely with them over the coming days, as they speak with all stakeholders involved in an attempt to work through the situation".

  10. Weekend booze blitz at York Railway Station

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are due carry out "enhanced patrols" at York Railway Station over the next two weekends in a bid to to cut down on alcohol-fuelled bad behaviour.

    York Station

BTP says "high visibility" patrols have been used before and they does seem to work.

Officers want to reassure people using York Station they won't be subject to anti-social behaviour by those who've drunk too much.

York isn't the only city to get these patrols. As part of what's known as Operation Stronghold, Leeds, Newcastle and Hull will also see more officers on patrol over coming weekends.

  11. Watch: Is time running out for spending a penny in Scarborough?

    David Ward

    BBC Local Live, York

    Cara Thorpe

    BBC Radio York News

The new immigration minister and North Yorkshire MP has been telling BBC Radio York about his plans to bring down the number of people coming into the country.

Robert Goodwill, who is also the Conservative MP for Scarborough and Whitby, says overseas workers are still needed and, for some roles, British workers aren't skilled to do certain jobs.

But, he says, migration must come down to "sustainable" levels...

  16. York driver was just under five times legal drink-drive limit

A woman who was just under five times the legal drink-drive limit is just one of the 177 arrests made by North Yorkshire Police during the force's summer drink- and drug-driving crackdown, it's been revealed.

    Drink-drive test being carried out

The woman, from York, was arrested at about midday on 6 July and provided a reading of 169 micrograms. The legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100ml of breath. She currently remains on police bail.

So far, a total of 21 of those arrested for drink-driving during the summer crackdown by North Yorkshire Police have given readings of over 100 micrograms - more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Meanwhile, 59 arrests have been made for drug-driving offences, 51 of which resulted from positive roadside drug tests - a 168% increase in the level of drug-driving arrests made as part of last year's crackdown.

  17. Listen: New flood defences arrive in Brompton

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Sadly, too many people in North Yorkshire know from personal experience the devastation that flooding can cause.

This morning, I've been out to celebrate a bit of "people power" in the battle against flooding in Brompton near Northallerton.

Frustrated by the lack of action after repeated flooding there, people have "gone it alone" and sorted it out themselves.

And this morning they finally get to see their new defences - three "leaky dams" as they call them - being put into place.

Sue Butler and Jan Hodgson, from Brompton Flood Prevention Group, have told me more:
