  2. Weather tonight: Thundery to start getting cooler tonight

    Scattered heavy and thundery showers will die out this evening, and with some clear spells and light winds overnight, patchy mist may form by morning.

  3. New go-kart centre planned for Sheffield

    A new indoor go-kart centre is to be built near Meadowhall after being granted planning permission.

    The £1.5m development will see TeamSport, who currently operate 18 other tracks, open up their latest on Shepcote Lane, Sheffield.

    Set to open in January 2017, the project will create 40 new jobs, and will be built in a currently derelict industrial unit.

    The track is expected to be multi-leveled, over 800m long, and have ramps that will mean 20 karters can race at a time.

  4. Work started on UK's first tram-train project

    The tram-train scheme that will link Sheffield and Rotherham by tram has finally started building work, six years after it was initially given the go-ahead.

    The project has been plagued by delays, but I've seen workers today planning to lay track and marking gantry points for the new station.

  5. Rotherham Council launch suicide prevention campaign

    Rotherham Council has today launched the first phase of a suicide prevention campaign in an attempt to encourage men to speak out.

    Supported by South Yorkshire Police and the NHS, the campaign aims to get middle aged men talking about their concerns.

    Nationally, men aged 45 to 59 had the highest suicide rate in 2014 for the second year in a row, a trend that is reflected in Rotherham.

  6. Miniature pony dumped with painful maggot-infested wounds

    The RSPCA is appealing for information after a pony was dumped in an old coal yard and left to fend for herself in Barnsley.

    The animal welfare charity was called by a concerned member of the public at around 20:45 last night to an abandoned coal yard on Lund Hill Lane, Royston.

  7. Hoyland man charged with attempted murder after shooting

    A man's been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Sheffield last week.

    Jamie Lee Howden, 26, of Barber Street in Hoyland, has appeared before the city's magistrates' court, after a shooting in Chapeltown last Friday night.

    Police were called to Burncross Road at around 23:00 after reports of shots being fired.

    Nobody's believed to have been injured during the incident.  

  8. Strike action could affect Doncaster to London trains

    Virgin East Coast could face strike action next month after union members are unhappy with the way cost-cutting measure were being implemented at the company.

    The rail union RMT has announced that they will vote next week on whether to launch industrial action.

    Virgin East Coast runs services from Doncaster to London King's Cross.

    The ballot result is due on Tuesday 9 August.

  9. Police appeal for witnesses following canal death

    Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an 11-year-old boy died in a canal near Rotherham last night.

    Emergency services were called to a bridge on Stonerow Way near Parkgate retail park at 19:00 last night after reports of a young person entering the water and disappearing.

    The body of an 11-year-old was pulled from the water around 4 hours later.

  10. Christian bookshop re-opens after lorry smash

    The Christian bookshop that was hit by a lorry on Tuesday has now re-opened after the building was declared safe.

    The shop,  on West Street, was hit by the lorry just before 13:00.

    Debris still lies at the front of the shop, crushing a stand that holds "get well soon" cards, and the shop say it will be cleared in due course.

    No-one was injured in the crash.

  11. Flowers lay beside canal following boys death

    Locals have been laying flowers beside the canal where an 11-year-old boy died last night in Rotherham.

    The body of the boy was pulled from the water at around 23:00 yesterday, after emergency services were called to someone being in the water.

  12. Listen: 'Riot model village' to be brought to Orgreave

    A man with an unusual fascination with RIOTS is in South Yorkshire next week - and is bringing his project to Orgreave.

    Artist Jimmy Cauty, formerly a musician with the KLF, has teamed up with producer Alistair McGregor to look at the causes and effects of riots - and our reaction to them.

    It's called the Aftermath Dislocation Principle, or ADP for short.

    Creator Jimmy Cauty has been telling how recent events in London, as well as Orgreave in 1984, have inspired the project...

  13. Watch: 'It's better than any lottery win' says double hand transplant patient

    A Doncaster man who became the first person in the UK to undergo a double hand transplant says he feels "whole again" after the operation.

    Chris King, who is from Rossington, lost both of his hands in an industrial accident.

    The operation was done at Leeds General Infirmary, which specialises in hand transplants. There are currently four people on the waiting list.

  14. Weather: Warm but risk of showers tonight

    If you're getting off work early today (it's Friday after all!), then it looks like the weather will stay cloudy but warm.

    It should stay fairly dry throughout South Yorkshire this evening, and any showers will be short but heavy, so it might be worth taking a poncho with you if you're going to Tramlines this evening!

  15. New Chief Constable to start early at South Yorkshire Police

    The new Chief Constable of South Yorkshire police is starting his job early.

    Stephen Watson, who's currently the Deputy chief constable at Durham, will begin his new role here on Monday morning.

    Technically he'll be the interim Chief Constable while David Crompton remains suspended following the Hillsborough inquests.

    He is to retire anyway at the end of November.

  16. Tramlines to take over Sheffield this weekend

    The UK's biggest inner-city music festival, Tramlines, is set to turn Sheffield into a huge festival site this weekend.

    Dizzee Rascal, Kelis, and the Dandy Warhols are just some of the acts to play the main stage at Ponderosa Park, with hundreds of fringe acts playing throughout the city.

  17. University of Sheffield professor to feature on new Robot Wars series

    Just when you thought they had all been laid to rust, the metal warriors that smashed and crashed onto our screens a decade ago are back.

    The University of Sheffield's Prof Noel Sharkey is going to be named as one of the judges when the hit BBC Two show Robot Wars returns on Sunday.

    The show sees competitors pitting home-built robots against menacing house robots who, with a decade of technological developments behind them, promise to be more destructive than ever.

  18. Driver tests positive for cocaine on Sheffield road

    A driver has tested positive for cocaine after he was stopped performing a U-turn on City Road, Sheffield last night.

    Not only was he found to taken cocaine before driving, but after a search of his car police found £160 worth of cannabis and almost £140 of brand new women's clothing.

    The driver wasn't only arrested for drug driving, but he was also arrested for disqualified driving, driving without insurance, possession of cannabis, drink driving, and shoplifting.

  19. Black Lives Matter rally in Sheffield today

    There's a peace walk and rally in Sheffield later today in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in America.

    It comes after the high-profile killings of black Americans like Alton Sterling.

    I spoke to the organiser Ross Walcott on my mid-morning programme earlier on why he wanted to get involved:
