Police urged to protect minority communities from rise in racial abuse
Racial justice campaign group Just West Yorkshire has written to the county's Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson to express its "deep concern" over an increase in racist incidents since the EU referendum.
"We have urged him to take concrete action to protect the safety of minority communities in the region," a spokesperson said.
"It is clear that since the referendum some people think they have a free licence to abuse without consequences."

The letter from Just West Yorkshire director Ratna Lachman (pictured) comes as new figures show the number of hate crime incidents reported to a national police portal since the EU referendum has been five times the typical weekly level.
From last Thursday to Wednesday this week 331 incidents were reported to the True Vision online site - equivalent to 47 every day.
The four-year-old gelding joined West Yorkshire Police's Mounted Section in May, joining the likes of Ledston, Ilkley and Breeze at the stables in Carr Gate.
Five names were selected for the final poll, with Stanley winning by more than 200 votes.
The name was put forward by a number of people, including Rebecca Milton, from Lepton, who was selected to meet the new recruit.
She chose it due to being a “proper” Yorkshire name, but coincidentally it also refers to a village in Wakefield.

Calls to re-use 'original Northern Powerhouse' mills in West Yorkshire
Owners and developers are being encouraged to do more to regenerate the 1,365 mills in the West Yorkshire region currently lying empty.

Historic England said the mills were "a great resource for the future".
It said where conversions had taken place they had made a positive contribution to the local economy.

Wetherby man jailed over drug cutting agent business
A man who used his online chemical supply businesses to sell large quantities of cutting agents to drug dealers has been jailed for 18 years.

Gregory King, 26, from Wetherby, West Yorkshire, bought 1.2 tonnes of the pharmaceutical drug benzocaine between 2013 and 2014 to then sell on.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) said the drug is popular in bulking cocaine to increase quantity and profit.

Office plans released for fire-hit Majestic building

The Majestic building, in City Square, was badly damaged by a blaze in September 2014 with the roof almost completely destroyed.
The venue, which opened as a cinema in the 1920s and eventually became the Majestyk nightclub, has had a temporary roof installed to protect the interior.

Officers are appealing for information about a white van - possibly a Ford Transit - which was seen at the junction of Bierley Lane just minutes before the incident on Monday night.
Armed police were originally called to reports of a brawl outside The Greenwood Inn pub on Monday night.
