The Worcestershire father of a soldier killed in Iraq has said his son died in vain.

Tony Blair overstated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, sent ill-prepared troops into battle and had "wholly inadequate" plans for the aftermath, the UK's Iraq War inquiry has said. Mr Blair has apologised but insisted that lives had not be lost "in vain".

  5. Attempted murder accused case adjourned

A man accused of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed at a house has had his case adjourned.

Iain Farrimond, 53, who worked for the Crown Prosecution Service for 23 years, appeared at Worcester Crown Court where he was due to enter a plea.

But Mr Farrimond's barrister, Adam Western, said a psychiatric report, ordered on 2 July, would take up to three weeks to complete.

Mr Farrimond, of Battenhall Road, Worcester, is alleged to have stabbed a woman during an incident at an address in the same street on 26 May and was himself treated for stab wounds.

The Recorder of Worcester Judge Robert Juckes QC said: "We're here for a plea hearing, but no plea is to be taken. The reason is so reports can be prepared."

He adjourned the case to be heard back at Worcester on 9 September.
