  5. Crane problems cause M5 chaos

In February, one of the overhead gantries ended up blocking the road after installation problems overnight - causing massive disruption on the motorway and prompting a huge backlash on social media from drivers stuck in jams.

The northbound carriageway between junction 5 at Droitwich and 4a at Bromsgrove was due to reopen at 06:00 on 5 Feb following overnight works. However there was difficulty removing the gantry from the carriageway as the available equipment could not lift it.

It eventually reopened more than 10 hours later.

  6. Delays to M5 roadworks

Work to install gantries over the M5 motorway could take several months longer than expected.

The £120m Smart Motorway project, between junctions 4a and 6 will see gantries carrying variable speed and other electronic signs built over the road. By opening up the hard shoulder at busy times, the intention is to increase capacity on the network.

Narrow lanes and 50mph speed limits are in place.

The scheme was originally expected to be completed by October. However it could run into early 2017, Andrew Hitch, senior project manager for Highways England said.

He said the delays were due to "unforeseen" problems, such as badger sets being discovered by construction teams.

  11. Has Brexit ended junior doctors dispute?

    Nick Triggle

    Health Correspondent

In two days' time doctors in England will vote on whether to accept a new contract.

Doctors have been out on strike six times - two of them all-out stoppages - over the terms and conditions that were on offer before it was announced in May that union and government negotiators had finally reached a deal.

Even if British Medical Association members vote no, it's quite possible it will not matter. The will to continue the fight has all but evaporated since the Brexit vote.

  12. Herefordshire Council spot £8.3m 'accountancy error'

    Nicola Goodwin

    Reporter, BBC Hereford & Worcester

Accounts that seemed to show more than £8m missing from a Herefordshire Council budget are purely due to an administrative error, the local authority says.

Back in 2015 councillors listed £19m for the first stages of building the new city link road between Commercial Road and Edgar Street.

Those were signed off but then by February of this year, when the next accounts were due to be signed off, it had become £10.66m.
