  4. Majestically going back in time

    Earlier in the week, we bought you the news that the recently burnt-down Majestic night club in Leeds is to be refurbished again.

    The plans have been submitted to the council today, but I just stumbled across this picture of the building on the Leeds Back in the Day Facebook page.

  5. Dogs set on a deer in Bailiff Bridge

    Were you in the Victoria Road are of Bailiff Bridge last Saturday night. There have been reports of a group of males who set two dogs on a deer.

    West Yorkshire Police say it's unclear if the deer survived or not.

  6. Watch: Waste site in Huddersfield - 'I thought it was water, but it was rats'

    Residents in Huddersfield are calling for immediate action to get rid of a huge pile of rubbish near their homes. 

    The waste site on Queens Mill Road was owned by a skip hire firm called Hunter Group.

    The site has now been sold - but it's not clear who to. Residents say the smell is so bad they have to keep their windows closed.

  7. Travel update: A643 Moor Road in Huddersfield closed

    Not good news as we head into rush hour I'm afraid. On the A643 in Huddersfield, the road has been closed in both directions because of a serious accident.

  8. Watch: One of the first boats to use the reopened Calder and Hebble Navigation

    Yesterday we told you that a stretch of the Calder and Hebble Navigation at Elland had reopened after the Boxing Day floods.

    The bridge is still being repaired after the floods washed out its foundations.

    The Canal and River Trust has just uploaded this video, which shows one of the first boats to use the river since the closure.

  9. Travel update: Lane closed on M1 southbound J41

    Just something to be aware of this afternoon if you're on the M1 southbound. One lane is blocked between J41 (A650 Carrgate) and J40  (A638 Ossett), because of a broken-down vehicle.  

    This was the view from the traffic cam a few minutes ago, as you can see it's all still flowing nicely.

  12. Leeds United: Comings and goings at the Whites

    Leeds United have made six summer signings after the capture of Oxford United striker Kemar Roofe in a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

    Oxford had said originally they wanted £3m for the 23-year-old who was the League Two player of the year last season when he scored 26 goals. 

    Roofe arrives after the capture of Swansea City's England U21 international midfielder Matt Grimes, 20, on a season long loan earlier today and on free agent and former England goalkeeper Rob Green who signed a 12 month contract yesterday.

    Already at the club's training camp in Ireland are loanees Hadi Sacko and Kyle Bartley from Sporting Lisbon and Swansea respectively along with permanent signing Marcus Antonsson from Swedish club Kalmar.  

  13. HS2 route change welcome news in West Yorkshire

    There's been a welcome in West Yorkshire to news the route could be changed for the high speed rail link through the region

    The company behind HS2 are considering dropping plans for a new station at Sheffield, and bringing the line into West Yorkshire nearer Wakefield. 

    Leeds Council leader Judith Blake says the Government should make a strong commitment to delivering the project as soon as possible.

    Keith Wakefield, the Chair of the West Yorkshire Transport Committee, says the changes would improve integration with the existing rail network.

  15. Charity shop hit by burglars in Wakefield

    A number of items have been stolen from a charity shop in Wakefield, earlier this morning.

    At 07:50 this morning, police were called to Scope's shop on Borough Road, the thieves made off with watches and handbags.

    If you have any information, you're asked to call Wakefield Police on 101.

    A little earlier we told you about Leeds United's new signing, Swansea midfielder Matt Grimes. Well Leeds have signed Oxford United striker Kemar Roofe on a four-year deal.

  17. That nagging feeling you've forgotten something...

    We've all been there - you change something in your routine and it throws your entire day off.

    Spare a thought  for one mum in Bingley. On the school run this morning, she dropped off one of her elder children at school, returned to the car only to find one of her children missing.

    The police were called, the school offered help immediately and locals in the area began to search for the child.

    But it soon turned out the child wasn't missing at all. In fact she'd just dropped her children off in a different order.

    It could happen to any one of us...
