A £23m makeover of Ipswich Museum and nearby art galleries could be boosted by another £5m of borough council funding.

The Ipswich Star reported earlier that the borough council's executive will next week be asked to approve the additional funding, with the council having already promised £1.25m.
John Devlin, project manager at Ipswich Museum, told BBC Suffolk's Stephen Foster: "We'll be able to make a very significant increase in the amount of exhibits - at the moment only about 10% of exhibits are on display."

He advised always using a "D" lock and "filling up the space inside the D" with as much bike as possible, to make it more difficult to get a steel bar or a car jack through the lock to cut into it.

Police believe they have found the getaway car and part of the cash machine in the Woolpit smash-and-grab incident which took place in the early hours.

Officers were called after a JCB digger was used to ram-raid the Costcutter premises and thieves stole a cash machine containing thousands of pounds.
Part of the cash point was retrieved later when firefighters were called to a Nissan twin-cab pick-up that was on fire in woodland between Rougham and Thurston. Police are appealing for information.

Bury hare coursing arrests: Five charged

Four men and a teenage boy who were arrested in connection with hare coursing in Barnham last week have been charged.
Police arrested five people shortly after 11:00 on Friday after receiving reports people were thought to be hunting with dogs in a field near Bury Road.
All five were charged with daytime trespass by five or more in pursuit of game. They are currently on police bail to appear at West Suffolk Magistrates' Court in September.

The people who escaped with thousands of pounds cash after a ram-raid at Costcutter in Woolpit in the early hours this morning, stole the JCB digger used in the raid from a farm in nearby Elmswell, police have revealed.

The thieves escaped in a silver "pick-up style" vehicle with the part of the cash point containing money cassettes holding thousands in cash, police said.
The rest of the cash point machine was left in the car park in Old Stowmarket Road.

Firefighters were called to a 10-acre of stubble on fire at a farm in Whepstead near Bury St Edmunds yesterday afternoon.
An electricity power line and a tractor were also involved. Fire crews and UK Power Networks took an hour to bring everything under control.

Mick McCarthy has been given the dubious honour of leading a fictitious football team made up of former players who have become managers.
The Town boss, who took the Republic of Ireland to the 2002 World Cup, has been named in the Football League Managers XI by BBC Sport.
The team also features Ipswich legend Terry Butcher, who manages Newport County, and Teddy Sheringham, who McCarthy will go head-to-head with next Tuesday when Town take on Stevenage in the Capital One Cup.

Figures which spell out why you should lock up your bike

Crime figures from Suffolk Police show the number of bicycle thefts in Ipswich has more than doubled year-on-year.
In May 2014 there were 26 bicycle thefts - but in May this year there were 72, nearly three times as many.
Waveney also saw a rise in the number of thefts, up from 11 to 20 during the same periods.

It's Day 2 of Suffolk's Minor Counties Championship match with Bedfordshire at Ipswich School with a draw looking the most likely outcome.
At lunch, the away side had reached 253 for 4, thanks largely to batsman George Thurstance who is 107 not out.
Suffolk still lead by 88 after declaring their first innings on 341 for 6.
Ipswich defender Matt Clarke goes out on loan

No surprises here and final confirmation today that Ipswich Town defender Matt Clarke has joined Portsmouth on a youth loan deal until 3 January. The 18-year-old had previously been on trial at the League Two side.
Clarke, who can play at left-back or centre half, broke into Mick McCarthy's first team squad last season, starting in the league cup loss at Crawley, before making four further appearances as a substitute throughout the campaign.
Town have a 24-hour recall clause on the loan agreement, which can be activated after 28 days of the spell.

Bike thefts 'almost treble' in Ipswich

Police in Suffolk say they can't pinpoint the reason for a year-on-year increase in bike thefts.
Compared to May 2014, the number of thefts during the same month this year have almost trebled in Ipswich and nearly doubled in Waveney, figures have revealed.
Suffolk Police say they are trying to work out where the demand is for stolen bikes.
Bury hare coursing arrests: Five charged

Four men and a teenage boy who were arrested in connection with hare coursing in Barnham last week have been charged.
Police arrested five people shortly after 11:00 on Friday after receiving reports people were thought to be hunting with dogs in a field near Bury Road.
All five were charged with daytime trespass by five or more in pursuit of game. They are currently on police bail to appear at West Suffolk Magistrates' Court in September.

New Ipswich Town signing Jonas Knudsen says he is known as "the new Rory Delap" by some in his native Denmark because of his long throw-in ability.
Left-back Knudsen, 22, joined Town from Esbjerg on a three-year deal on Friday. Former Stoke City midfielder Delap was famed for his long throws.
"My dad also did it when he played," he said. "When you're a kid you look up to your dad. I see him make the throw-ins and as a little kid I did it. Now it's one of my good things."
'Remarkable' dog has a nose for lost footballs
A youth club has been reunited with a number of its missing footballs after a border collie developed a nose for finding them in the bushes that border its Glemsford playing field.
Maggie has retrieved more than 20 balls on the open space behind her home near the Epic Youth Club ground.
Club manager Stuart Ayling said she's "one remarkable pet".
Speedway: Ipswich Witches tournament abandoned

A serious injury to Norfolk-born speedway star Lewis Kerr forced yesterday's Premier League fours tournament involving the Ipswich Witches to be abandoned.
Riding in the final for Newcastle at the time of the high-speed crash Kerr was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Earlier in the meet Ipswich lost the services of heat-leader Nico Covatti with a suspected broken finger. He must now be doubt for Thursday's visit of Workington.
'Stolen' JCB digger used to steal 'thousands'

The people who escaped with thousands of pounds cash after a ram-raid at Costcutter in Woolpit in the early hours this morning, stole the JCB digger used in the raid from a farm in nearby Elmswell, police have revealed.
The thieves escaped in a silver "pick-up style" vehicle with the part of the cash point containing money cassettes holding thousands in cash, police said.
The rest of the cash point machine was left in the car park in Old Stowmarket Road.
Police confirm a man in his 30s dies after serious accident

An investigation is under way after an accident claimed the life of a 30-year-old man on the A1088 road at Honington.
Emergency services were called just before 09:00 to reports of a collision between a HGV and a VW Golf on the westbound carriageway.
Diversions are still in place while the investigation is carried out.

'Thousands' stolen in Woolpit ram-raid

Thousands of pounds have been stolen in a ram-raid which saw a cash machine torn out of the Costcutter store in Woolpit by a JCB digger.
The digger was used to damage a metal gate and to get into the garage forecourt around 02:55.
It was then used to smash through the window of the store and grab the ATM, before the offenders got away with part of the cash point in a silver pick-up style vehicle. Police are appealing for witnesses.
Delays and diversions on the Suffolk border

The diversion takes you round London road and the old A11.
Accident between car and lorry in Honington

A car and a lorry have been in an accident at Honington on the A1088.
Emergency services were called just before 09:00 this morning, near Troston Road, to reports of a collision between an HGV and car on the westbound carriage.
The road is closed and diversions are in place. We'll have more on this later.

Thieves have ram-raided the Costcutter store at Woolpit and taken out the cash machine, part of which is said to be dumped in the car park.

Power line and tractor involved in 10-acre stubble fire

Firefighters were called to a 10-acre of stubble on fire at a farm in Whepstead near Bury St Edmunds yesterday afternoon.
An electricity power line and a tractor were also involved. Fire crews and UK Power Networks took an hour to bring everything under control.
Cricket: Captain Tom Huggins is leading century scorer

Captain Tom Huggins has become Suffolk's leading century scorer after hitting 168 on day one of their Minor Counties Championship match against Bedfordshire.
Batting first his side posted 341 for 6 at Ipswich School.
The visitors will return to the crease this morning on 96 for 3 after Matt Wareing struck three times.
