The victim of a fatal crash in Long Melford earlier this week has been named as Maciej Antkowiak, 23, from Ipswich.

Mr Antkowiak was the front passenger in a red Toyota Yaris that hit a wall on the A1092 Westgate Street at about 05:30 on Wednesday.

Police say the car left Ipswich at about 05:00 that morning, and travelled towards Long Melford via Hadleigh, along the A1071 and A134. Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen it being driven erratically.

A 26-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

Ahead of tomorrow's fixture at Villa Park, Mick McCarthy says both Ipswich Town and Aston Villa are in a better place compared with when they last met in February.

In his first senior appearance since agreeing a four-year-deal in the summer, the Welsh international midfielder came off the bench in the midweek 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, providing an assist for goalscorer Martyn Waghorn.

Huws said he was now ready to start matches after a few months on the sidelines.

"I didn't know what it was, to be honest. It was the strangest injury I'd ever had or ever seen in my time in football," he said.

"It messed with my head a lot, and other people's too, but it's fine now. I know it's a cliche, but I think to come through it and still be OK only makes you stronger."

A woman has sustained potentially life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a car within the grounds of the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The woman, who is aged in her 70s, was hit shortly before 10:30 and is being treated at the hospital.

The area where the incident took place has been closed off while an investigation takes place, so there are currently some traffic restrictions in place, but people can still access the hospital, and will be directed where necessary, police say.

Mick McCarthy has hinted that teenage strikers Ben Folami and Ben Morris could be part of the Ipswich Town squad heading to the West Midlands today ahead of tomorrow's game against Aston Villa.

The pair made their debuts at Crystal Palace in August.

The Town boss says he's been particularly impressed with Folami: "He's the more physical of the two of them so he's more able to handle the championship but Ben Morris is certainly a goal scorer, so both of those are sort of pushing for a place if we've got one.

"But please God, we don't get injuries to the strikers; we all know they've been terrific."

Further details have been released about a crash on the B1106 in Elveden in the early hours of this morning, in which a female airman from RAF Lakenheath died.

Police say they were called at 00:10 to reports of a single-vehicle collision.

A blue Honda Civic had hit a tree approximately one mile (1.6km) north of the Center Parcs entrance.

Ambulance and fire crews attended, but the woman, aged in her 20s, died at the scene.

The 29-year-old, pictured playing against Burton Albion in October, is just one yellow card away from a suspension.

McCarthy said: "I don't want him to change. If he gets booked and he gets suspended somebody else is just going to have to come in.

"That's the way he plays - I love him for it and all the defenders hate him for it so, no, keep going, Joe."

A road closure in Ipswich put in place a week ago is to continue.

Ipswich Borough Council says it is working with the owners of a former pub on the junction of Norwich Road and Bramford Road to make the building safe.

A spokesman explained: "Action has been taken to stabilise the old Rose & Crown building but the top of Bramford Road will remain closed for the foreseeable future while work continues.

"Public safety is our paramount concern.We have served the site owner with a notice to make the building safe and progress is being made but the road will remain closed until we are absolutely sure it is safe to reopen it."

The council has apologised to motorists for the inconvenience. The footpath has now reopened.

An airman from the USAF 48th Figher Wing based at RAF Lakenheath has died after her car hit a tree on the B1106 Elveden to Brandon road in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman from the base said the identity of the woman would not be released until 24 hours after next-of-kin had been notified.

She was alone in the car.

The road was closed while a police investigation was carried out, but has now reopened.

Residents of a care home in Onehouse near Stowmarket don't have to go far if they want to brighten their day with a visit to the pub.

Chilton Meadows, which has 75 residents aged from 65 to 99, has opened up the "Chilton Arms" in a disused summerhouse in the home's grounds.

Lisa Alexander, resident experience manager, said: "We have quite a few residents here who do like the odd tipple.

"Unfortunately as we're rural, we haven't got a local pub we can get them to, so we decided to build our own.

"It's also really good for the relatives. If they want to come along and want to take their loved one to the pub, they can do it altogether."
