Wales stun England to seal record Test win - reaction & highlights

Fans were still chanting ‘Wales’ as they streamed out of the stadium. And they kept on singing all the way into town. I suspect it’s going to be a late one in Cardiff.

Wales coach Warren Gatland: "We created a lot of problems for ourselves. We felt England did not create anything in the first half, but we were much better in the secondhalf and got better as the game went on. Our aerial game was really good, in the second half tactically we were really good.

"In the first two games, away from home, we were not brilliant but it was tough and physical today, and I thought the crowd were amazing. We felt England had a softtry, but then it was a great second half from us.

"We are going to enjoy tonight and then get back to work and try to win this championship.

Are Wales World Cup contenders? "Apparently not, according to some pundits! We will keep our heads down and get on with it. There was a great team in the 70s, this is a special bunch of boys at the moment, they are a brilliant group."

England head coach Eddie Jones said: "It was one of those nip and tuck games of small margins. We let ourselves down in a couple of areas and they beat us in the air. The penalty count was against us and that gave them the opportunity to gain field position.

"It was a tough game. I don't know whether we lost our heads but they put us under a lot of pressure. I think a few of our players were a bit off today and that happens. Full credit to Wales, they deserved the victory and played very well.

"It's all about ebb and flow - we had a fair bit of flow, but we'll come back for the Italian game. We didn't attack space well today and we will find a different way to attack Italy."

Daz: That second half from England stunk of complacency. They clearly didn't respect the Welsh in attack and were content to kick the ball away in the belief that they could recover it easily in their half.

Wales full-back Liam Williams: We have always known we are a great team, we didn’t play well in the first two games but the boys really dug deep.

Last week they kicked it a lot, but we worked hard in the back three this week and we defused those bombs.

Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones: It’s a nice day, we have to realise what it is, enjoy it over the next few hours but get back on the horse tomorrow.

The performance improved a little bit, we stood up and after the first half we knew we had to match the level of emotion.

Having a week off is dangerous, I am sure Scotland are licking their wounds are probably looking forward to us going up there.

This was the moment that vice-like tension exploded into a party.

England captain Owen Farrell said: "We didn't really get a foothold in the last 30 minutes of the game. We did well in the first half and we had a good go at the start of the second, but then we couldn't get back that momentum.

"We made a few errors and they did what they did well. We couldn't get out of our half and they manged to build a lot of pressure. It will feel a lot worse than it should now but we will look back on it and learn from what we need to."

England got what they deserved, they lost the grip of it and Wales took hold with that try. They imposed themselves physically, and there was only going to be one winner. There was a period of 20 minutes in the second half where England did nothing.

Wales have Scotland away and Ireland coming to Cardiff on the final day of the Championship.

This title is still very open. But Wales are the only team to have its destiny in their own hands.

What a Test match! Ferocious defence throughout, and I thought England kicked too much, and when Wales had the chance they took a stranglehold. What an influence Dan Biggar had and on the second half. Wales deserved it.

When you see someone like Dan Biggar coming on, you know exactly what to expect.

I remember him in his first training session at the Ospreys, and he was telling seasoned professionals what to do. You saw the structure change and he was the difference.

So many hugs, as far as the eye can see. No one's rushing to leave the stadium. The Wales fans want to savour this one.

Ferocious. Brutal.

But after all the blood spilt and sweat expended, the two teams, many of whom have shared Lions tours together, swaps smiles and hugs.

That was a kick to nothing with the penalty but it was so well executed, and on the balance of play no more than Wales deserve. England pay the price for a lack of ambition.
