NATO has 'no obligation' towards Syrian Kurds

Turkish forces have reportedly captured a number of villages in north-western Syria from Syrian Kurds, on the third day of an offensive to create a 30km-deep "safe zone" along the Turkish-Syrian border. The US has supported Syrian-Kurdish forces in the region in their fight against the Islamic State group, and has voiced concern at the offensive. However, the NATO military alliance says it supports Turkey’s right to “self-defence”. Robert Hunter is a former US ambassador to NATO
