  1. Farewell

They certainly did. But it's one point so far with a horrendous run of games still to come for the Blades.

That's a wrap from us tonight - see you back here tomorrow for this little lot. DON'T FORGET TO PUT YOUR CLOCKS BACK. Or forward or whatever the hell it is. I never know:

    • Southampton v Everton - 14:00 GMT
    • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United - 16:30 GMT
    • Arsenal v Leicester City - 19:15 GMT
  2. 'We took the game to Liverpool'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield Utd

    Sheffield United

    Chris Wilser

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to BBC Sport: “No hard luck stories, you have to go again. We have had opportunities. You are not expected to dominate at Anfield, but we did more than enough to get something from it and we are disappointed we are going back on the coach with nothing.

“We took the game to our opponents. They are always going to open you up but I enjoyed watching my team tonight. We were not far off, but you have to pick up results.

“If we had got to half time it might have been easier. Conceding just before was a big blow but we stayed in the game and we pushed in the end to try to get a result."

On differences from last season: “We had a settled side last year which gives continuity, we have been hit hard and had to change things around.

“But Ethan Ampadu gave us mobility in midfield and we went toe-to-toe with them.

“It wasn’t all one-way traffic and can you pick out good aspects of our game."

On upcoming matches: “We have some difficult games coming up but we know we can be competitive against the big teams.

“Sure, we would have liked more points. Our defining games will be against teams in and around us, but we have got to keep in contact by picking up points whenever we can and by showing the same attitude as we did tonight.

“In the performances from last year to this year there has not been a great difference, but we kept the ball out of the net better last year and we are not hurting teams the same when we get the chance.”

  3. 'A bit too hectic'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield Utd

    Liverpool

    Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: “We were a bit too hectic at the start. We had four offensive players on the pitch but all offered the same option.

“But I love half time. The second half started good and for 20 to 25 minutes we were really good. We could have scored more and then they came back.

“We had to dig deep but the boys did.

“It’s nice to win 2-0 or 3-0 every game but that only happens if, in games like this, we are ready to fight hard. On nights like this you earn the right to win the others like that.

“Really good partnership at the back, but they have a tough job to do. The penalty conceded was clear it was a challenge to win the ball. We are on the wrong end of another decision, but luckily we could sort that tonight, so maybe I should not talk too much about that.”

These late kick-offs work the MOTD editors hard - they're already up and they've started with this game...

  5. Post update

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United are winless in nine Premier League games (D1 L8), the longest current run of any side in the competition.

  6. 'On nights like this you earn the rest'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "I'm not surprised at all, you always have to work hard against Sheffield United. It's hard to take for Chris Wilder.

"The penalty was not even a foul. During a season there are so many different periods, we have had an injustice and we have had to go again. I love these games, as you earn all of the rest. You earn the easier games when it all goes your way on nights like this.

"We struggled with McBurnie in the first half but we changed our positioning and won the second balls. We were dominating at 2-1 and had some really good football but then they came back.

"They never give up, I respect that so much. They go and go and go. Chris is doing a wonderful job."

  7. 'That was more like us'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder to Sky Sports: "The attitude was terrific, we were always going to be up against it but we've been in the game right to the end. There are a lot of disappointed players in there and I thought we did enough to get a result.

"We could have been given another penalty but it wasn't. It was more like us, we we more aggressive and competitive, we needed to get back to that.

"If you allow good players to get their heads up they'll pick you off and we got into them and made contact. It wasn't one way traffic, and now it's Man City and then Chelsea. But that's what the league is all about. We deserve to be in it and now we've got to show we deserve to be part of it.

"Last year we had a settled side in a system that has worked for us for a few years aso when you have to make changes it affects you. But we had more belief today, we just couldn't find that final pass to get something from the game."

  8. 'Not clinical in both boxes'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

    Sander Berge

Sheffield United goal scorer Sander Berge speaking to Premier League productions: “As disappointed as you can get. I felt we have been putting in a lot of good performances so far but not getting the reward. That was probably the best performance of the season so far. It feels like we are getting so close, yet we are so far away.

"We are showing faith and belief. We came out with that mentality and playing the best team in the world, yet it didn’t look as if we had lost many games in a row. We pressed them and created chances, but we were not clinical enough in both boxes. That’s the difference.”

  9. 'We showed we can dig in'

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson on Sky Sports: "It was hard as expected, they are a good side who work really hard. We knew it would be difficult and we are delighted to get the points.

"McBurnie was very good in the air so it was hard for the lads at the back but they coped and worked it out better in the second half. We should have killed the game off with another goal or two.

"I am only interested in the mentality in our changing room and I see hunger, resilience, character to dig in and win if you are not playing at your best. We showed we can dig in and see results out."

  10. A proper fortress

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Liverpool

Liverpool extend their unbeaten run at Anfield to 62 games in the Premier League (W51 D11), winning 28 of their last 29.

  14. Sign of champions?

This is Liverpool's second come-from-behind Premier League victory this season. Last season, they registered a league-leading six of those en route to the league title.

Declan Bee: Have to say Jota really impressed me tonight. Fits in like he has played for Liverpool for years. All credit to Sheffield United though, gave it their all tonight.

  18. Post update

Here's what that win means for the fledgling table. The blue side of Liverpool can go three points clear with a win in the Theo Walcott/James Beattie derby tomorrow afternoon.

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

    Home win!

    Liverpool ground it out.

  20. CLOSE!

    Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

And there's a chance, right at the end! Oli McBurnie wins yet another header, it runs through to Ollie Burke who shoots from 20 yards, but scopps it over the top. Tough to beat Alisson from there but he should have done better really.
