  1. Elsewhere in Europe...

Some decent football tonight in Europe, as Barcelona host Sevilla in La Liga and Inter Milan face Juventus in the 'Derby d'Italia'.

Being pedantic I'd have thought every Serie A game is an Italian derby.

Anyway, you can follow live text commentary of those on the BBC Sport website here.

  2. Goodnight

OK thanks for joining me today, we've seen a couple of notably scorelines - Manchester City losing to Wolves to let Liverpool go eight points clear, plus Manchester United losing to Newcastle (you'll see I said notable but not shock).

Plus Arsenal and Chelsea won earlier. That's the end of this page now, see ya.

  3. Post update

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford touched the ball 21 times in 90 minutes.

Newcastle centre-back Jamaal Lascelles only had 22 touches - and only needed to make one tackle.

  9. 'I've waited 20 years for this'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, speaking to Sky Sports: "I've waited something like 20 years for a result against Man Utd. I'm delighted for everybody. What we needed was a response after last week and that was there for everyone to see.

"This just shows you that football management is up and down. You can never write the script. When that's the case you need your team to rally around.

"When you lose badly everyone comes under the pump. Thankfully we responded and for a young kid to make his debut and blast one in from 20 yards is something else.

"Since pre-season in China I've said 'who's this kid?' He stands out with his ginger hair. He has wonderful enthusiasm and he lights up your day. He's 19? So what. I'm delighted for him.

"All you can do is answer your critics by getting a result. We knew this run was going to be difficult. I hope this is the turning point. I know I'm not going to be everyone's cup of tea but the nonsense that flies around is insulting. Hopefully this helps the cause."

SMS Message: Call me crazy but I don't think the answer is getting rid of Solskjaer. If a new manager comes in there may be a bit of a bounce but then it will be the same problems again. Ole may be a bit out of his depth but ultimately there need to be changes higher up the ladder for United to reach the level they were at for so long before. from Zak

  11. 'We are going through a very difficult period'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

More from Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BBC Sport: "We are never happy when we don't win and we are going through a very difficult period, but it's not too dissimilar a position to where we were last season where I was disappointed with the attitude, but the attitude here is spot on.

"But when you lack six of the starting XI from the first game, of course that will impact on performances. We will work hard to get them back but the lads who are out there gave everything."

On their next game away at Liverpool: "That's a perfect game for us. The international break is also at the perfect time because their heads need a bit of airing. It doesn't help having a meeting tomorrow. They will go away with their national teams, meet their team-mates and come back fresh.

"We have had a good time together, we have prepared since the first day of pre-season, we have stuck to the same principles. We have not got the result today but we have to keep carrying on."

  12. 'We did not create enough chances'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BBC Sport: "It's disappointing, we started really badly. They are working hard but we couldn't settle down, we gave too many sloppy balls away. The second half we dominated but did not create enough chances."

On Harry Maguire's missed first-half header: "Harry knows he should have scored but when teams are going through difficult periods those are the chances you don't take. But that will come back.

"We have to work on the mindset because I understand the boys being disappointed and lacking a bit of confidence. But I see them everyday, they are good players and they work hard."

  13. 'We were due to get away with one'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

    Newcastle United

More from Steve Bruce to MOTD: "To beat Manchester United is always a special thing, a club of their size.

"Harry Maguire missed a header before half-time, we were due to get away with one. Our keeper didn't have much to do. Allan Saint-Maximin gave us something, which takes us up the pitch. Miguel Almiron is a very good player, he just needs to score a goal."

"Fabian Schar is a very good footballer. I just hope he comes back OK from Switzerland's game against the Republic of Ireland.

"Considering the start we've had and the teams we've played, eight points, we’ll accept it."

  14. 'It’s quite a story'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce to BBC Sport: "They [the Longstaffs] are a very proud family. For one of your sons to be playing, let alone the two - and 19 and 21 years old - it's something else.

"When it fell to him [Matty], I thought I've seen him drill them in in training but to do it on the big stage...

"He’s been a breath of fresh air. He just wants to play football. I thought who’s this ginger kid when we were in China. He’s been good in training.

"It didn’t faze him. He enjoyed it. He probably didn’t sleep well last night. He won’t get much sleep again tonight. It’s quite a story. I’ve been going 20 odd years and not been able to beat Manchester United and he’s done it straight away."

  15. 'We used to kick each other in the garden'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

Newcastle goalscorer Matty Longstaff, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think getting to play with Sean was unbelievable. We used to kick each other in the garden growing up so to be on the same team, for our hometown club, and to win against Man Utd, who are a good side, is a bit surreal.

"I found out I was in the team after training yesterday. Your belly starts to turn a bit, you get a bit nervous and then you don't sleep much. I dreamed about it last night, this is kind how it of went."

  16. 'It will take however long it will have to take'

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to Sky Sports: "It will take however long it will have to take. It's a journey we've started on and the culture is getting there. I can't give you any time but we're getting there. We've given ourselves a big, big uphill challenge to get among the top four but it's tight and we need to get a run together.

"We've come together and discussed the direction we're going. If you only work on sunny days you'll never get to your destination. We'll have these days but we know where we want to get to."
