  1. That's all for now

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

It appears the BBC Scotland website is breaking - hopefully not due to vengeful Russian hackers angry at that result - so this seems a good point to wrap things up.

We'll be back on Sunday - or whenever Scotland v Japan actually goes ahead - for that monumental showdown in Yokohama.

Join us for that, and enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.

  2. Post update

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

I probably shouldn't be sharing content from the "competition" on these pages - nobody grass me up, please - but this is a lovely moment.

Scott Hastings, co-commentating for ITV, watches his nephew Adam score his second try of the game.

    Wholesome content all the way...

  3. What about Typhoon 'Haggis'?

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Remember that pesky typhoon Hagibis ("Haggis") we discussed at the start of this live text? Course you do.

Anyway, we still don't know if it's going to affect the weekend's matches, notably Scotland's decider against Japan, and England's clash with France, and whether those matches will be moved.

Here's Scottish Daily Mail rugby correspondent Rob Robertson, who has his ear to the ground in Shizuoka...

  4. 'Wherever I'm put I just love being out there'

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Hat-trick scorer George Horne took his Scotland record to six tries in nine Tests today. He was denied a late fourth by a forward pass.

"There was pressure going into the game. We knew we had to win and score four tries, so to do that and keep them to zero was awesome," the scrum-half told BBC Scotland.

"Russia defended well in the first 20 minutes, but we managed to break them down and execute our game plan really well, and that laid the platform to let us play our game second half.

"I have a lot of fun playing with Adam Hastings, we enjoy each others' style of game. I thought he kicked excellently tonight, he put us in the right areas of the field.

"Everything seemed to be coming down the left! It was a shame to get that last try chalked off, but wherever I'm put I just love being out there.

"Sunday is a massive game. Japan have been excellent. We just need to go out and execute, front-up and do the job."

  5. Young Hastings 'comes of age'

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Alan Johnson on Twitter: "Quality, coming of age performance by Adam Hastings. George Horne excellent as well. #SCOvRUS#bbcsportscot"

  6. More reaction coming soon - have your say

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Japan

    Don't go anywhere.

We've got more reaction from the Scotland camp coming your way on these pages shortly.

  7. Will Scotland beat Japan?

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Japan

Right then, time for another poll. Will Scotland beat Japan and reach the quarter-finals?

    You know the drill...

Hit thumbs-up for yes, thumbs-down for no.

  8. Hastings continues family legacy

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Scotland fly-half Adam Hastings bears probably the most famous surname in Scottish rugby history. Father Gavin and uncle Scott were both giants of the national team and British and Irish Lions.

Gavin and other family members were in the crowd while Scott was co-commentating for ITV this morning.

"All these years my dad's been telling me how easy it was, so that was nice to shut him up a bit!" joked Hastings junior after racking up 26 points.

"Nah, I’m kidding. It was great having him there - my mum, my uncle and auntie and a couple of mates were out as well.

"It was pretty fun. We played really well first 20 minutes spoke about being patient all week and not forcing because we were chasing that bonus point. Once we got that fourth try, we all just relaxed and that enabled us to go for it."

  9. Townsend pleased with squad rotation

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on BBC Radio Scotland: "That was hard work tonight. The scoreline might suggest it was one-sided but that first half was very competitive and we had to be really accurate and deliver a performance full of effort to get that scoreline.

"It does give us momentum but we know it’s a very quick turnaround. We get three clear days before we play; Japan have probably had seven or eight days, so they’ll be well prepared.

"Part of tonight was to share the load, but also bring players off the bench so they get a hit-out. It’s not great for your preparations for a game on Sunday if you’ve got a game on Wednesday, players don’t get to train today, so it was good to see some guys who may be starting against Japan get a run-out tonight."

  10. How is the table looking?

    FT: Scotland 61-0 Russia

Here's how Pool A looks after that shellacking. A reminder that Scotland must beat Japan in that monumental showdown on Sunday to reach the quarters, and really have to do so without Japan earning a bonus point.

Before then, Ireland play Samoa on Saturday, and can guarantee their spot in the last eight by taking maximum points.
