Paolo Brand: So if England beat the USA we’ll have a new name on the #WWC trophy. With #Germany out, what a chance this for #England too. Could it finally be coming home? We’ve been here before though with last summer’s World Cup opening up invitingly, and yet...

Simon Atkins: Great victory. Poor game management from them towards the end though, a more confident Germany would have capitalised no doubt.

Hatters:Well done Sweden much the better side. Unfortunately Germany were devoid of ideas

  8. 'Fair play'

    FT: Germany 1-2 Sweden

    Claire Rafferty

    Ex-England international on BBC One

It was a direct ball down the middle to Sofia Jakobsson, and to be able to remain composed and score such an important goal for your country, fair play.

  9. 'Fantastic finish'

    FT: Germany 1-2 Sweden

    Jordan Nobbs

    England midfielder on BBC One

Germany looked like they had started off the game really well and it was a fantastic finish for the opener.

  10. Post update

This was the first time in 20 years that a team have come from behind to win a Women's World Cup quarter-final.

The previous time was also a Germany defeat, 3-2 by the USA in 1999.

  11. 'A day for the defence'

    Germany 1-2 Sweden

    Pat Nevin

Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The headlines will be about Stina Blackstenius and Sofia Jakobsson, who was brilliant. Kosovare Asllani was quiet. But this was a day for the defence. Their defence were great.

  12. 'Big surprise'

    FT: Germany 1-2 Sweden

    Jordan Nobbs

    England midfielder on BBC One

It is a big surprise but not many people have been talking about this side of the draw. Everyone thought Germany would cruise to the final.

Gary Woolton: Is this the first real surprise of this World Cup? Oh and it's utility player (re 85 mins).

  14. 'Germany just didn't hit that level'

    FT: Germany 1-2 Sweden

    Claire Rafferty

    Ex-England international on BBC One

I cannot say I'm too upset that Germany are going home. Sweden got the tactical build-up spot on. I expected Germany to recover but it just they just didn't hit the level.

  15. Post update

    Germany 1-2 Sweden

This is Sweden's fourth semi-final. Only the USA (eight) and Germany (five) have been to more.

But Sweden have never won it. They lost the 2003 final... to Germany.

  19. Post update

    Germany 1-2 Sweden

Almost a scare. Germany get the ball in the box, Sweden keeper Hedvig Lindahl is off her line as always but they can't do anything with it.
