  1. Thanks and goodbye

That ends tonight's live page as Anthony Joshua maintains his unbeaten record by claiming a seventh-round stoppage win over Alexander Povetkin to keep hold of his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles.

You won't have to wait long for our next boxing live as George Groves takes on Callum Smith on Friday in the final of the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

Thanks for all your comments and for your company. Until next time, bye for now.

  2. Joshua stops Povetkin to retain titles - read the report

Anthony Joshua delivered a stunning finish to stop a game Alexander Povetkin and retain his world heavyweight titles at Wembley Stadium.

The IBF, WBO and WBA champion, criticised in some quarters for failing to finalise a deal with the division's other high-profile names, responded emphatically with a seventh-round stoppage of the Russian, who had never been beaten inside the distance.

After an early chess match in which Joshua suffered a bloodied nose before cutting his rival, the Briton grew in confidence and a savage right hand followed by a left hook began an onslaught which would prove telling.

Another right-left combination downed Povetkin, who somehow made the count, only to stagger into a left hook which saw him slump into the ropes, leaving referee Steve Gray with no option but to intervene.

Roars poured down to ringside as the rain had all day, with Joshua's corner ecstatic and rightly so. His display showcased poise, intellect and power, sending a message to the heavyweight division that the champion will take some stopping.

Babatunde Sakiru‏: AJ continues his winning in style, what a remarkable finish from a great champion. You never let us down well done.

Jon Adaway: AJ is the real deal, after a shaky start, he showed good character to win. Fury or Wilder next? No worries because he'll beat them.

Joshua Byers Warner‏: That was one very quick powerful shot JEEZ someone give Povetkin an icepack ouch.

  4. 'A cracking right hand'

    Steve Bunce

BBC Radio 5 live boxing pundit at Wembley Stadium

It was a cracking right hand. I don't think Joshua was hurt or stung at all and that's an achievement. He was moving great, throwing different shots, so it was controlled and he didn't waste anything.

  5. 'The most impressive display of Joshua's career'

    Mike Costello

BBC Sport boxing correspondent at Wembley Stadium

It was a brilliantly placed and timed right hand. He was getting the measure of Povetkin in the early rounds. Unlike Takam and Parker - Joshua's last two opponents - Povetkin was here to win.

I think the quality of opponent, for all Povetkin has done, for me, the way he was beaten makes it for me the most impressive display of Joshua's career.

  6. 'AJ and his team will rob the British fans of Britain's biggest fight'

Some quotes from Tyson Fury on Twitter and Instagram. This is slightly edited from what he wrote. We're a family site you know.

He writes: "Think it’s now safe to say AJ & his team... will rob the British boxing fans of Britain's biggest fight.

"They will never fight me ever! Way too slow & ponderous. Can’t box eggs! I’m 27/0/19 KOs and the lineal heavyweight champion of the world! Can’t say I blame team Joshua."

  7. 'There are players and there are plonkers'

Promoter Eddie Hearn says: "They (Deontay Wilder's camp) agreed the deal, we signed a contract they didn't. There are players and there are plonkers. Anthony Joshua is the one stepping up to fight these great fighters. He is a special talent, Alexander Povetkin is a world class fighter.

"If they don't want to fight (Wilder), they don't want to fight. Anthony Joshua is not an Instagram world champion he is a world champion. Let's see if Wilder v Fury actually happens. They haven't got a venue.

"Tonight was about making the first step out of the way. If it is not Deontay, Dillian Whyte will be next. Our sole focus is on AJ being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world."

  8. Post update

Maybe Eddie Hearn can shed some light on who next for Anthony Joshua.

  9. 'My number one opponent would be Wilder'

More from Anthony Joshua, who is asked who he thinks will win in the Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury fight, which is scheduled for December 1.

"May the champion bring himself here and have a good old fashioned dust-up," says Joshua. "All I want to fight is serious challengers. If Dillian (Whyte) wants to fight here he is also more than welcome."

Pushed on who his favoured opponent would be, Joshua replies: "My number one would be Wilder, let's not talk about a number two or three."

  10. 'There is a lot of pressure'

Anthony Joshua says: "Alexander Povetkin is a very tough challenger he proved that tonight. I came here to have fun, do what I have done in the gym, he was strong to the head but weak to the body it could have taken seven, nine or 12 rounds to get him out of there.

"Tonight is out of the way let's figure out what's happening on April 13. Let's put a vote out there.

"There are no mandatory challengers? Who do we want to fight? Anyone is welcome. The sport is about what the fans want, but some times we have to face the mandatories."

Asked why the fight against Deontay Wilder did not happen, Joshua adds: "We both did a lot of talking, I'm here now, I had a good fight, have my knockout streak back.

"There is a lot of pressure the whole country is rooting for us. The energy in here spurs you on and you do feel that pressure, I'm not going to lie. A few years ago maybe I wouldn't have won the fight."

Lee Shigwedha: Boom Boom AJ....The Greatest ever

  13. Post update

"Wembley first and foremost thank you. Can we give a round of applause for Eddie Hearn?" asks Joshua. The crowd are not willing to play along.

Stuart Edward-Yanks: No need to worry chaps. AJ does what AJ does. Knock people out and all that.

Peter Shields: I really hope all Joshua's doubters will now recocgnise the fact that he is, indeed, the real deal - delighted for AJ

Neil Yelland:@anthonyfjoshuawith the finish! Mark of a champion to come up with magic in the face of adversity. Can we now accept that we have a once in a lifetime boxer on our hands as opposed to looking for fallibility at every turn?

  16. Post update

We are seeing that right that sent Povetkin down. How did he get up from that? A beautiful, beautiful shot, immediately after a huge left. Even in slow motion it looked lightning quick. Povetkin somehow hauled himself up but the fight would only last another 20 seconds.

BBC Sport boxing correspondent at Wembley Stadium

Only one word for that. WOW.
