Campaigners have staged a rally at Horton Hospital opposing changes to its maternity services.

Sophie Hammond said "lives would be put at risk" if the maternity unit was led by midwives until the NHS trust recruited the obstetricians it needed.

She added: "The thought that these key consultants and this access to emergency care and surgery could be taken away from here doesn't bear thinking about."

There's queuing traffic on the A40 London Road in both directions in Oxford at the Headington roundabout.

A rail campaign group has warned passengers could "swamp" a main route into London when engineering works close key lines around Oxford.

Network Rail will shut the line between Leamington Spa, Banbury, Oxford and Didcot on Saturday for up to two weeks.

Oxford Parkway to Marylebone will be the only direct route to London and replacement buses will operate.

Chiltern Railways which runs the Marylebone service said it was "prepared" for the increased demand.

An inquest has heard how the managing director of Oxford City Football Club was found hanging at the ground earlier this month.

Colin Taylor's body was discovered by a member of the public in Marston on 17 July. 

Thames Valley Police said his death was not thought to be suspicious. A full inquest will take place in November.

There's slow traffic on the A415 Abingdon Road in Clifton Hampden at the B4015 Oxford Road junction.

Police said at about 20:15 on 19 July a 43-year-old man was attacked by three women in St Mary’s churchyard.

He fell to the ground and sustained injuries to his arm and face, and was taken to the Horton General Hospital. An unknown amount of cash was stolen.

Three women, aged 32, 33 and 34 from Banbury, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed until 12 August.

Villagers have taken providing public transport for isolated residents into their own hands after the axeing of their bus service.  

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has told staff it may suspend the obstetric service at the Horton Hospital from the end of September 2016 if staffing problems are not resolved before then.

It claims it is pulling out all the stops to fill the five posts needed.

Paul Brennan, trust director of clinical services, said: “The trust has been working very hard to develop ways to make these posts more attractive to applicants and this includes enhanced pay and additional training at the John Radcliffe Hospital."

Approximately 300 homes and businesses in Didcot are still without power at the moment.

Southern Electric said nearly 1,400 customers were taken off line after a contractor hit a cable.

The cinema and several supermarkets in the town were affected.  

Southern Electric says generators are being brought in for the remaining customers without power in the Queensway area of Didcot.

A production company behind Star Wars has pleaded guilty to two criminal charges after actor Harrison Ford broke his leg on set.

Foodles Production (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary of Disney, admitted two of four criminal charges at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court.

Banbury MP Victoria Prentis says she will meet health secretary Jeremy Hunt next week to discuss the "terrifying" prospect of a midwife-led maternity unit at the town's Horton Hospital.

NHS bosses are considering scrapping consultant-led maternity services at Horton Hospital and potentially moving them to Oxford.

Ms Prentis said the "very worrying" plans could happen earlier than planned, as the hospital says it is having trouble recruiting enough obstetricians to staff the unit safely.

A man, two women and a boy have been arrested following a racially aggravated attack on tourists at a beauty spot in Oxfordshire. 

The young visitors were assaulted and racially abused last Tuesday at the Buscot Weir near Buscot Park.

One victim received a broken cheekbone.

A 16-year-old boy, a 20-year-old woman, a 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, all from Uffington, have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault, GBH and ABH.
