Work to start on £1m potholes project
Work is starting on a £1m project to repair potholes in Rochdale.
Rochdale Council using cash from the government's £250m Pothole Action Fund to improve the roads in the area.
The authority's director of highways, Steve Reay, said compensation claims were a major factor in the cost to its road budget.
Mother and daughter missing in Manchester
A mother and her three-year-old daughter have gone missing in Manchester.

Police are "extremely concerned" for Mary Doyle, 36, and her child Leona Doyle, who were last seen on Friday at their home in Debdale.
The mother has not made contact since then and police are appealing for the public’s help to find the pair.
Det Insp Muzemil Kernain said: "I would like to appeal directly to Mary to please get in touch with us to let us know you are both safe and fine."
Missing three-year-old Wilmslow boy found
A missing three-year-old boy who disappeared from a garden in Cheshire has been found.
The boy was last seen in the front garden at a property on Oakdean Court, Wilmslow at about 13:00.
Police were becoming "increasingly concerned" for his whereabouts.

Lewis Palmer was last seen at the front of a property in Oakdean Court, Wilmslow, at about 13:00.
He is described as mixed race with short curly hair and he was wearing bright blue top with orange shorts and no shoes.
Residents are being urged to check their gardens and outbuildings. Cheshire Police is appealing for information.

A hospital trust in Greater Manchester has explained how it is avoiding paying premium overtime to consultants, after the BBC discovered a medic in Lancashire earned £375,000 in just a year.
An investigation found the overtime bill for consultants in the UK was £170m last year - an increase of a third on 2013-14.
But Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust said specially-trained nurses carry out some of the routine work previously done by consultants - which reduces the amount paid in overtime.

The use of force in Greater Manchester Police custody suites is not recorded, monitored or analysed, a report has found.

Inspectors were "concerned" by the findings as recording the use of force would have provided learning opportunities and helped to ensure staff accountability.
The report by Martin Lomas, deputy chief inspector of prisons, and Dru Sharpling, HM Inspector of Constabulary, also said "exceptionally high demand" meant health care response times were not always met and most suites did not have effective drug and alcohol services.
It found police custody in Greater Manchester had improved, but could make further progress.

Courier staff 'lost work' over seriously ill son, MP Frank Field claims
Parents caring for their seriously ill child were told to return to work "immediately" or lose their courier delivery rounds, an MP has said.
The couple from Greater Manchester were at the bedside of their son, six, who was on life-support after an emergency leg amputation. He later died.
Frank Field, said he had written to Prime Minister Theresa May, calling for an inquiry into Hermes UK.
In a statement, the courier company said it would investigate the case.
