    Andrew Barton

People in Richmond say they welcome plans to bring back the town's CCTV system.

Richmond District Council turned off cameras in the town two years ago, saying it could no longer afford to run them.

But now the Ministry of Defence says it is prepared to monitor the cameras for free, provided someone else pays for them to be switched back on.

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Network Rail has been told to review its operations manual, after a passenger train derailed near Knaresborough last November.

An investigation by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch has found a worker who wasn't used to operating signal boxes had cleared a train to pass without realising a set of points after was unsafe.

There were five passengers on board, as well as train crew. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Quote Message: The signaller that day was a mobile operations manager. As a mobile operations manager, his core work was to respond to faults and incidents on the railway network; he operated signal boxes infrequently." from RAIB

Video caption: An archaeological dig is underway in York at the site of the Battle of Fulford

In case you didn't know, the Battle of Fulford took place on 20 September 1066, when Harald Hardrada and Tostig Godwinson, his English ally, fought and defeated the Northumbrian Earls.

Less than a week later King Harold Godwinson met the Viking force at Stamford Bridge, east of York, defeating and killing Harald Hardrada and Tostig, only to find William of Normandy had landed on the south coast.

This meant a lightning march down to fight the Battle of Hastings, where William defeated Harold and became William the Conqueror and signalled the beginning of the Norman Conquest.
