  1. Keep those brollies handy - more rain's on the way

    It certainly hasn't felt like the first day of August - in fact the West Country saw more rain today than it did during the whole of July.

    More than 8mm of rain was recorded in Clearwell in the Forest of Dean, for example. 

    It's a good job Ian Fergusson didn't forget his brolly for his forecast earlier...

  2. Four generations under the same roof

    One mansion, 45 rooms, a £1m refurb and four generations of the same family moving in to Frenchay Park House in Bristol.

    The 18th Century grade II listed mansion was previously used by the North Bristol NHS Trust as its headquarters.

  3. Gas leak could cause disruption during rush hour tomorrow

    Homes have had to be evacuated and roads have been closed after a gas main burst on a building site in Yeovil.

    Work is still under way at the scene and it's been causing some traffic problems.

  7. Tiny diamond-tipped drill is changing lives in Taunton

    More than a dozen people in Somerset have benefited from a complex surgical procedure using a tiny diamond-tipped drill to unblock arteries.

    Rotablator drills through calcium in severely blocked arteries

    Plaque, consisting of calcium, cholesterol, fat and other substances that circulate in the blood, can build-up in the arteries causing them to narrow.

    Rotablation uses compressed air to drive a very small diamond tipped drill, which is used inside the arteries to break the blockage into tiny pieces.  

    In the past, people had to travel to Bristol for the procedure, or potentially have a coronary artery bypass operation, but now it's available at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

  8. No charges after death of Spitfire pilot at Somerset hospital

    There will be no charges brought over a WW2 veteran who died during an incident with a fellow patient on a hospital ward. 

    Ex-fighter pilot Kenneth Tyrer, 90, died at Yeovil Hospital in June last year after being allegedly kicked to the ground and hitting his head.

    And he kept everyone entertained right to the end.

    The nine year old, from Gloucestershire, died at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday while waiting for a new heart.

  11. West players named in England Rugby pre-season squad

    There's good news for Gloucester Rugby fans as one of the club's star players is seemingly on his way back to full fitness.

    Wing Jonny May has been named in England's 45-man pre-season squad after recovering from a serious injury. The 26-year-old had surgery on his knee in January.

    Bath are also represented in Eddie Jones' squad, with five of the club's players called up to the national team.

    Uncapped young star Charlie Ewels has been selected, as well as teammates George Ford, Jonathan Joseph, Semesa Rokoduguni and Anthony Watson.

  12. Yeovil gas leak: Heavy traffic due to road closure

    Diversions remain in place while engineers deal with a gas leak in Yeovil.

    Work is ongoing and Western Avenue is still closed, which is causing heavy traffic in the area.

    Ten homes were originally evacuated when a digger hit a gas main on a new housing development near Thorne Lane.

    This has now been reduced to five homes.

    Just some of the words being used to describe teenager Hannah Francis, who has died following a battle with terminal cancer.

    The 18-year-old, from Radstock in Somerset, built up a huge following when she started posting pictures online of herself and Willberry Wonder Pony - a cancer 'mascot' bought for her by her trainer.

  15. Lucky escape for Gloucester couple after campervan gets stranded in sea

    A couple from Gloucester had a lucky escape after their campervan became submerged on Brean beach yesterday...

    Campervan stuck on Brean beach

    They'd been walking on nearby Brean Down unaware of how quickly the tide comes in.

    A spokesman for the Burnham Area Rescue Boat charity said thankfully the tide wasn't too high on Sunday evening and the van could be recovered and driven away.

  16. Supermarkets recall Somerset yogurts over rubber fears

    Yogurts

    Five UK supermarkets have been warned to take thousands of pots of yogurt off their shelves amid concerns they may contain pieces of rubber.

    The yogurts, supplied by Somerset firm Yeo Valley, but sold under own-brand labels, pose a possible health risk and should not be eaten, the Food Standards Agency said.

    The products are sold at Asda, Co-operative, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose.

    Yeo Valley said the rubber was found in a fruit conserve made by a supplier.

  17. BreakingEvacuation after 'significant' gas leak in Yeovil

    A cordon is in place following a gas leak in Yeovil, Somerset.

    It's after a digger hit a gas main on a new housing development near Thorne Lane.

    People living within 100 metres of the incident have been asked to leave their homes and the police are at the scene. 

    A spokesman for Wales & West Utilities said it's not known how long it will take to repair.

  18. RIP Hannah, the teenage horse rider who inspired thousands around the world

    Horse rider Hannah Francis has sadly died after battling an aggressive form of bone cancer.

    The 18-year-old, who lives near Radstock, built up a huge following on social media after posting pictures online of herself and her mascot Willberry.

    A statement posted on her Willberry Wonder Pony charity Facebook page said: "James, Rachel and Sam are deeply saddened to announce that today Hannah passed away. 

    "She has made every day count and has fought courageously from start to finish. They are immensely proud of their beautiful daughter and sister."

  19. Clifton Suspension Bridge base jumper 'reckless'

    Police have criticised a man who filmed himself jumping from the Clifton Suspension Bridge with a parachute before landing on the banks of the river Avon 250 feet below.

    They say the base jumper's leap on Saturday afternoon was incredibly dangerous and irresponsible.

    The trust which runs the bridge also regards the jump as reckless as well as illegal.
