  1. Five things we learnt today in North Yorkshire

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Thanks for being with us today, we'll be back at 07:00 on Wednesday morning.

In the meantime, let's look back at five things we've discovered about our glorious county today...

    1. A group of wacky racers have found a new way of getting down York's Micklegate
    2. BBC Radio York's Nathan Turvey's attempts at baking glory end in accusations of rule bending
    3. The beauty of North Yorkshire is once again set for glory on the small screen
    4. BBC Look North weather presenter Paul Hudson is always happy to bask in the beauty of a bay
    5. When looking for meteorological marvels, BBC Weather Watchers never fail to provide pictorial splendour

Let's finish today with a small selection of pics from today's 150th Ryedale show:

  2. Ripon's 'Moonstone' mystery: Another North Yorkshire televisual feast on the BBC

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

A new BBC period drama has begun filming in North Yorkshire, with actors working at Thornton Watlass Hall, north of Ripon.

    Thornton Watlass Hall

It's for an adaptation of Wilkie Collins' 19th century mystery novel The Moonstone, which was described by TS Eliot as "the first and greatest of English detective novels".

Among the cast is John Thomson, who starred in Cold Feet.

    Thornton Watlass Hall

Judging by the look of these pics I think a certain area of North Yorkshire might be in for a bit of a tourist boom - as seen on the telly.

  3. Watch: Fast ships for raiding and war - and for zooming down Micklegate's cobbles

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

I told you earlier about those wacky racers getting ready to race their soapboxes down the cobbles of Micklegate in York.

They'll be taking part in the Autohorn Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge Champion next month.

I've also been out to meet a slightly younger team too who are planning to use a different sort of craft built for battle in their bid to grab victory in the Soapbox Challenge:

  4. Cyclist taken to hospital after collision with lorry in York

    BBC Radio York

A road in York was cordoned off by Police earlier after a cyclist and a lorry collided.

    Piccadilly in York

The incident happened on York's Piccadilly at about 10:00. The road has now re-opened.

The cyclist's since been taken to hospital with what police say are serious but not life-threatening injuries

  5. Two pounds better off for my tasty tarts!

    Nathan Turvey

    BBC Radio York News

I've been at the Ryedale Show for BBC Radio York where there's been an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality, but there's also been some rivalry - most of it friendly.

I've been feeling a little competitive, wondering how the jam tarts and chocolate cake I was talked into baking have been judged.

They were entered into two classes: Class 43, which is a "plain chocolate cake (no filling)" and Class 66 which is "MEN ONLY - four Jam Tarts"

There were over 200 entries in the produce section and I've just found out how I did. For my chocolate cake:

    Iced choc cake

I was, ahem, disqualified! Apparently I didn't read the instructions properly (imagine a man doing that!) and I iced it, which doesn't fit in with the rules for "plain" chocolate cake.

The shame. Oh well. However, for my tarts:

    Tarts

I came third! My pride is restored and I'm £2 better off (that's the prize money).

I'll be back next year and this time those rules will be studied thoroughly.

  6. Traffic and travel: Delays on A64 York Bypass

    BBC Travel

There's queuing traffic and heavier than usual traffic on the A64 York Bypass eastbound between Grimston Bar Interchange in York and the Barr Lane junction in Stockton on the Forest.

  7. North Yorkshire's weather: Sunny spells with small risk of shower

    Paul Hudson

    Weather presenter, BBC Look North

This afternoon will be rather cloudy but bright with some sunny spells, just a small chance of a shower.

The top temperature will be about 21C (70F) with a light or moderate southwest wind.

  9. Yorkshire Jets to close down after losing Superleague place

    BBC Sport

Yorkshire Jets are to be wound up after England Netball decided to remove them from Netball Superleague.

The league was expanded from eight to ten teams in June, but Jets, who finished bottom of the table last season, were not offered a place.

The team will close in September to allow players to take part in training camps already scheduled for the summer.

"This is a sad day for netball and for women's sport in Yorkshire," Jets chairperson Mariana Pexton said.

  10. An early morning bay of peace and tranquility in Scarborough

    Paul Hudson

    Weather presenter, BBC Look North

Take a look at this vision of stillness and beauty...

John Hodgson took this at 06:00 this morning, then sent it to me with the question: "Is this a sign of a good day or not?"

    Scarborough

Well, John, it's not looking too bad today actually.

Remember you can get in touch with Andrew on BBC Local Live today via TwitterFacebook or email.

I'm sure he'd love a few more crackers like this.

  11. North Yorkshire woman 'attacked by sheep rustlers'

    BBC News England

A woman suffered a serious head injury after being assaulted with a plank of wood while trying to stop two sheep rustlers, paramedics have said.

    James Cook Hospital

The woman in her 40s, who owns the flock, was attacked at Picton, near Crathorne in North Yorkshire, Great North Air Ambulance said.

She was flown to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and is said to be in a stable condition.

North Yorkshire Police said an assault had been reported.

  12. Watch: 'A day to remember' as York's way-out wacky races hit the city

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels will be competing for the title of Autohorn Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge Champion next month, as they race their soap-box carts down York's steep and cobbled Micklegate.

I've been to meet the turbo-driven Johnny Haze, the man getting the pram wheels in motion to find out more:

  13. Sunday parking charges in Harrogate being considered

    Sarah Urwin

    BBC Radio York News

It looks like it's going to cost you to park on the street in Harrogate on Sundays.

At the moment it's free, but officials are being asked to approve plans to bring in charges between 10:00 and 18:00 - and, if agreed, charging will start in October.

    Montpellier St Harrogate

North Yorkshire County Council says it wants to "encourage more people to use off-street car parking" and doesn't think it'll damage the town.

  14. Showing off my tarts in Ryedale

    Nathan Turvey

    BBC Radio York News

It's the 150th Ryedale Show at Kirbymoorside today where I'm presenting BBC Radio York's mid-morning show.

A country fair like this is always full of wonderful culinary creations, and one of the most competitive parts of the show is the produce section.

    Nathan baking cakes

I've foolishly allowed myself to be talked into entering my own kitchen creations and have entered two categories.

Class 43 is a "plain chocolate cake (no filling)" and Class 66 is "MEN ONLY - four Jam Tarts"

I delivered my attempts to the produce tent before going on air this morning. My hopes aren't high, but I'll let you know how I get on...

  15. Lauren Winfield positive Yorkshire Diamonds can sparkle in women's Super League

    Yorkshire Post

Captain Lauren Winfield believes the Yorkshire Diamonds squad will take inspiration from their male counterparts and play with an aggressive freedom in the upcoming Kia Super League.

    Lauren Winfield

Yorkshire are one of six host teams bidding to engrave their name in history in the internationally-flavoured competition, which is aimed at raising the standard and coverage of women's cricket.

  16. Your headlines this morning

    Sarah Urwin

    BBC Radio York News

The latest headlines from our newsroom in York include:

    • The man potentially taking over York City Knights says it will take time to agree a deal and it would be foolish to rush it through
    • Nearly half of young people in Yorkshire feel they've nothing to look forward to, according to a new survey from the Prince's Trust
    • Plans to introduce charges for on-street parking in Harrogate on Sundays are being considered
  17. Shooting down York's cobbles on pram wheels!

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

York's Micklegate, the southern entrance to the city, is famous for a lot of things.

It's used by visiting monarchs to enter the city and is well known for its many pubs.

It's also one of the few steep hills in the city, and it's one of the few remaining cobbled streets.

    Micklegate

Micklegate is perfect, then, for an event being held next month when it's being turned into a race track for a go-cart race.

I've been to a secret location just off Micklegate - where one of the teams involved is building its racing machine.

Have a look at this speedy creation made by Andy Spence from Priory Garage.

    Go cart

Imagine sitting in that and hurtling down the hill - every bump felt!

I'll bring you a film a little later to tell you more about the race...

  18. Listen: 'Work to be done' on saving York Knights

The potential new owner of York City Knights RL club says the "intention and will" to take over the club is there, but a "lot of work needs to be done" before a deal is agreed.

Last Thursday, the club announced it was to close as a result of financial difficulties, blaming declining revenues caused by playing at York City FC's Bootham Crescent ground following their eviction from Huntington Stadium.

Last night current owner, John Guildford, put out a statement saying former director, Gary Dickenson, will take over the club in a "virtually debt-free" state.

However Dickenson has told BBC Radio York it's "not a done deal, and nothing's been signed yet":

  19. 'Challenging environment' blamed for 42% fall in Drax profits

Drax power station near Selby has seen a 42% drop in earnings for the first half of this year, its owners have said.

    Drax power station

In a statement, Drax Group says its financial performance has been affected by what it calls "the challenging environment" it operates in.

However, it adds: "With our reliable and flexible generation we are well placed to support the country's electricity system as we prepare for the tightest winter in many years."

  20. North Yorkshire's weather: Bright spells, scattered showers

A bright start with broken cloud and bright spells for much of the day.

We're at risk of seeing some scattered showers throughout this afternoon, but these will be hit and miss.
