It's thirsty work watching the cricket at North Marine Road where Yorkshire are taking on Nottinghamshire, in the one-day Royal London Cup match.

If you're a fan of the Mystery Plays in York then you might be interested in a new exhibition all about the plays which has opened this morning at York Minster.

I've been to see The Mystery Plays: Under the Spotlight which opened this morning at the Minster and includes costumes and props from the York Minster Mystery Plays.

Vicky Harrison, head of collections for the York Minster Historic Collections Team, told me the idea of the exhibition is to "look at what can be learnt from these stories, some of which have been told for over 3,000 years."  

In the age of iPads, games consoles and mobile phones children have all kinds of entertainment at their fingertips.

But with a new survey warning that today's youngsters are spending just half the time playing outside that their parents did as children, the National Trust is launching a new drive to get them to reconnect with nature - and they insist the only handheld device a child needs to unlock their imagination is the humble stick.

A body has been found in a canal near Selby.

Police were called by a member of the public to Beal Lock on the Aire and Calder Navigation (pictured) at about 08:45 this morning.

The nearby area was cordoned off and a nearby road was temporarily closed while police divers recovered the body.

Insp David Hunter says: "It appears the body has been in the water some time and enquiries are under way with neighbouring forces to help identify the person.

"At this early stage, we do not believe it relates to any North Yorkshire Police missing person cases or investigations."

People are being urged by police to stay away from the scene until further notice.

I'm there for BBC Radio York and can see about 5,000 fans have made their way to North Marine Road to sit under ominous looking clouds.

England's 330-run win over Pakistan in the second Test was mightily impressive, but the performance of Yorkshire's Joe Root was even better.

He scored 254 and 71 not out, took four catches and even claimed a wicket in his only over as England wrapped up victory with a day to spare to level the series. He can do no wrong.

We have long since known Root is a top-class batsman - he would comfortably make mine or anyone else's world XI - but the way he played at Old Trafford was not far short of perfection.

Young people in Yorkshire are being warned to stay off the region's railway tracks after a rise in trespass cases.

Over the past 10 years, almost 170 young people in the UK have lost their lives after trespassing on the railway.

Data from British Transport Police shows that just under half of those killed were under the age of 25.

In this world of instant communication, when was the last time you sent or received a postcard? 

Today, an event in Malton harks back to a time when news of holiday adventures took days to arrive - sometimes even arrived after the holiday was over. 

A huge collection of old postcards of York is going under the hammer at an auction being held at the Milton Rooms.

I'll add a gallery of close-ups in a little while so you can get a closer look at these wonderful reminders of days when we composed on paper or card, with a pen, and we never imagined one day our correspondence would be a series of plastic clicks and an instant send.

Frankly, we don’t think one measly day is enough to celebrate our great county, but it’ll have to do until we stage a coup, make York the new capital and decree that every day is Yorkshire Day.

In the meantime, Lord Mayor Dave Taylor has teamed up with Martin Witts, organiser of the Great Yorkshire Fringe, to ensure the celebrations last all day – and long into the night.

More than 50 passengers and crew had to be evacuated from a train near York Railway Station after a fire broke out in one of its engines last night.

Crews were called out to the stricken TransPennine express service just south of York station at about 22:40 on Tuesday evening, North Yorkshire Fire Service says.

A total of 54 passengers and four staff were helped from the train and on to a replacement service, according to a fire service spokesman.

"The fire was in the rear engine. It was extinguished by the train's own fire prevention system," he added. 

"However, the decision was made to assist with the evacuation of 54 passengers and four staff on to a second train and transport them back to York rail station."

No-one was injured during the incident, the fire service says.

They play Nottinghamshire at Scarborough and seem to be on a roll with some great results in the T-20 and then on Sunday an emphatic victory over Leicestershire in the Royal London Cup.

I've been talking to the man at the heart of that win, York's Jack Leaning. He scored 131 not out.

Jack told me he loves playing at Scarborough and says he's hopeful for a good finish to the season, with high hopes for the County Championship, the one-day cup and the T20 Blast.

More now on the news that new figures show salaries in Yorkshire are the lowest in the country. 

The BBC's found a typical worker in our region earns about £21,000, that's below the national average.

According to the Department for Work and Pensions in 2014 - 2015, the average income before housing costs reached £473 per week - about £24,600 a year.

Bill Adams, from the TUC in Yorkshire, has told BBC Radio York people need to be paid more because "over 20% of the workforce are reliant on state benefit".

On Boxing Day 2015, the Merchant Adventurers' Hall in York was flooded.

More than a metre of water deluged the 14th Century Guildhall.
