Thanks for being with us today. We'll be back at 07:00 on Thursday morning.

In the meantime here are five things we learnt about North Yorkshire today:

  3. 'Be vigilant' warning after knifepoint robbery

Police are warning people to "be vigilant" when using cash machines in York city centre after a 59-year-old man who'd just used a machine in Goodramgate was robbed at knifepoint.

The robbers, both with foreign accents, thanked their victim before fleeing following the incident at about 18:10 on Wednesday.

Det Con Robert Brook says: "This robbery happened in broad daylight, in a busy street in York and there will have been a lot of people around at the time.

"It’s possible that people saw the men, but due to their “friendly” approach, and the speed with which the incident happened, passers-by may not have been aware of what was happening.

"I urge anyone using cash machines to be vigilant, be aware of who is standing around or watching you as you use the machine."

  8. Knifepoint robbers 'thanked victim before fleeing'

Two men who threatened a 59-year-old man at knifepoint and robbed cash from him in the centre of York thanked their victim before fleeing, police have revealed.

The second suspect, who was holding the knife, is of similar height with an olive complexion. He's smaller than the first man but still toned, aged between 24 to 26 and dressed in a similar manner to the first suspect.

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

A brand new £34.5m bypass on the A684 in North Yorkshire has been officially opened by the Roads Minister, Andrew Jones.

It's hoped it'll reduce traffic through Bedale, Leeming Bar and Aiskew on what's a key route in and out of the Yorkshire Dales as well as providing a boost to the local economy.

The three-mile long bypass is expected to improve the flow of traffic by taking something like half the 14,500 vehicles which travel on the A684 every day:

    Jack Laugher and Chris Mears

Laugher, who's from Ripon and who trains in Leeds, was competing in his second Olympics after a miserable experience at the 2012 Games in London.

Then 17, he was the youngest person in the 3m individual springboard event and struggled for his best form at the Aquatics Centre, culminating in terrible final dive, which he mistimed to land feet first.

"I feel like I had a point to prove here. That's why I was so emotional at the end. It was a reflection of how hard we have worked since London.

"This is the big one. To do it alongside my best friend it is beyond worth it. It is my absolute dream."

  11. Protected bird of prey shot and killed in Richmondshire

A bird of prey has been found illegally shot and killed in North Yorkshire.

The common buzzard, a protected species, was found by a member of the public near Manfield in Richmondshire and was later recovered by the RSPB.

    Common buzzard

The bird, similar to the one pictured, was taken to a vet in Leeds where an x-ray showed 10 fragments inside the bird which indicated it had been shot.

PC Rob Davies, of North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Taskforce, says: "Buzzards are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it a criminal offence to kill or injure them.

"The extent to which raptors are persecuted is completely unacceptable, so I am urging anyone with any information about this incident to get in touch with me without delay."

Ripon's Jack Laugher and diving partner Chris Mears have become Britain's first Olympic diving champions.

The attack happened on Saturday 6 August. The lambs were just three months old and the owners of the sheep are said by police to be "devastated".

As a result, dog owners are being reminded by police to ensure their pets are kept under control at all times.

PC Helen Hardie says: "I'm urging dog owners to keep their pets on a lead, particularly in rural areas around livestock.

"Even the most mild-mannered dog can see sheep, especially lambs, as something to chase and kill.

Officers have spoken to the owner of the dog believed to be involved.

  15. North Yorkshire's 'heaven on Earth' rocks a new look

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Described by Queen Mary as "heaven on Earth", Plumpton Rocks is 30 acres of lake and gardens between Knaresborough and Harrogate.

The Grade II listed man-made lake and surrounding pleasure gardens is set against a backdrop of towering rocks.

The popular tourist attraction was formed in the 1760s by creating a lake at the foot of an extensive range of weathered and contorted gritstone outcrops.

It's also just had a major restoration costing £700,000 and I've been along for a sneak preview:
