    LA Times

    Tyga

A Los Angeles judge has issued an arrest warrant for rapper Tyga after he failed to show up in court for a hearing in a legal battle with his former landlord.

Tyga was scheduled to be questioned under oath about his financial affairs because he has yet to pay a bill of more than $480,000 (£367,000) awarded to the landlord of a Malibu mansion he rented in 2011.

According to the landlord's lawyer, the rapper missed rent and is accused of breaking his lease early and "trashing" the house.

A judge is reported to have set bail at $10,000 (£7,645) for the rapper - whose real name is Michael Ray Stevenson - who has been romantically linked to youngest Kardashian, Kylie Jenner.

The Ministry of Sound record label - which has launched the careers of acts including London Grammar, Example, Eric Prydz, and Wretch 32 - has been bought by Sony.

Ministry of Sound Recordings was launched in 1993 as an extension of the famous South London nightclub and is now one of the world’s largest dance labels.

It's sold more than 70 million albums, notching up 40 number one albums and 21 number one singles in the UK.

  9. Ozzy Osbourne calls legal action over royalties 'harassment'

    Billboard magazine

    Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne has spoken out on the legal action being filed by his former songwriting partner and bassist Bob Daisley over his solo track Crazy Train.

Daisley is seeking $2m (£1.52m) in unpaid royalties, which he claims he's owed from Osbourne and his company Blizzard Music Limited.

Osbourne's camp has denied any wrongdoing, calling Daisley's legal action "tantamount to harassment" and citing previous legal action he has taken against the Black Sabbath rocker.

In a statement Osbourne's reps said Daisley has received bi-annual royalty statements for 36 years and had "routinely audited" accounts during that time "using several different auditing firms who found no discrepancies."

Osbourne's team added: "We understand that Mr Daisley is now in retirement and that these funds are his main source of income, so it is his right to be diligent with his money, but after 36 years, this is tantamount to harassment."

They claimed Daisley had an "unhealthy personal obsession and resentment" towards Osbourne's success and added they would "vigorously defend these proceedings."

    NME

Ian Brown of The Stone Roses

After nailing their homecoming shows at the Eithad Stadium in Manchester, where The Stone Roses played to 240,000 fans, the band have confirmed three dates at one of the world's coolest venues, the Sydney Opera House.

They'll play the more intimate gigs on 12,13 and 14 December this year - their first shows in Australia since a surprise appearance at Future Music Festival in 2013.

According to NME the group got into a weird Twitter spat with fellow performer Azealia Banks at the festival, where she accused them of teaming up with her ex tour manager to sabotage her set by checking their equipment while she performed.

  12. Manchester's getting a new festival to champion new music

    Guy Garvey

A new festival Off the Record is launching in Manchester this November, championing new bands in the style of Brighton's The Great Escape and Liverpool's Sound City.

Around 30 new acts will play six venues around the city's Northern Quarter, with line-ups curated by the likes of Guy Garvey (pictured), Tim Burgess, Frank Turner, Radio 1's Huw Stephens and Radio X's John Kennedy.

There'll also be input from legendary Manchester music shop Piccadilly records and local writers, radio presenters and bloggers as well as a conference programme.

Manchester used to host the late Tony Wilson's In the City festival, famous for showcasing the likes of Oasis, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran before they were signed.

In a twist, Off the Record's band line-up will be kept secret so people experience the music live first, according to the Manchester Evening News

  13. Grammys pay tribute to Clannad's Padraig Duggan

Clannad in 1982 - Noel Duggan, Ciaran Brennan, Moya Brennan, Padraig Duggan and Paul Brennan

The Grammys have paid tribute to Clannad's Padraig Duggan (pictured second from right with the rest of the band in 1982), following yesterday's sad news that he had died aged 67.

In a statement, The Recording Academy called Duggan "a truly gifted musician, with extraordinary skills on both the guitar and mandolin."

Quote Message: As a founding member of the Irish folk group Clannad, Padraig beautifully blended the traditional sounds of Ireland’s musical past with contemporary pop music, helping to push the Celtic sound into the mainstream. Not just bandmates, Clannad were also family members, and their deep Gaelic roots and ethereal stylings shined on more than 15 full-length albums, including the much-celebrated Landmarks, for which they won the Grammy for best new age album for 1998. We have lost a cherished artist and our sincerest condolences go out to Padraig’s family, friends and collaborators.
  14. Bon Iver tease fans over new album

    Bon Iver

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver hasn't exactly been slacking since his last record, teaming up with the likes of The Staves, Kanye West, Francis and the Lights and James Blake.

But if internet speculation is to be believed, a new Bon Iver album - the first since 2011 - could be with us very soon.

Last month the musician posted a cryptic video on social media along with the hashtag #22days - and an equally cryptic mural has appeared on a Brooklyn wall this week, bearing the words: "22 Days - It Might Be Over Soon."

On Friday, Bon Iver will headline the Eaux Claires festival in their hometown of Wisconsin, an event he runs with The National's Aaron Dessner.

The group previously said they would devote the set entirely to new music, so many are hoping that means they'll debut the new album - possibly called 22 Days? - live.

  15. Alessia Cara opens up about teenage hair loss

    Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara has written a piece for Glamour magazine about her struggle with her hair falling out as a teenager.

The 20-year-old Canadian recently released the track Scars To Your Beautiful, with a moving video which featured interviews with cancer survivors, transgender people and others who challenge conventional ideas of beauty.

In her essay, Alessia wrote: " In late elementary school, early high school, I started losing my hair in chunks in the shower. It was one of the scariest things. It got to the point where it was visibly gone."

Quote Message: I was constantly looking for hairstyles to hide the bald spots. And I didn’t know why it was happening. I just kept thinking, ‘Why am I so young and having to deal with this?’ I didn’t want people to look at me, I didn’t want people to get too close. Even now, I struggle with it; sometimes, you can see that my hair is missing in some spots. I have just learned how to accept it.

    Liam Gallagher
Image caption: Liam Gallagher recalled being unable to see the back of the crowd

Twenty years ago today, Oasis played the first of what would be the biggest gigs of the Britpop era at Knebworth in Hertfordshire.

Over two nights they played to a quarter of a million people, rubber-stamping their claim to be the most popular British band since The Beatles.

"I'll never forget the sheer scale of it," guitarist Paul Arthurs, aka Bonehead, told the BBC's Steve Lamacq.

"We flew in from London by helicopter and sort of circled the site. It landed behind the stage but we were like: 'Let's just do a once round and take it all in.' I'll never forget it."

You can read more about the gig and hear more on Steve Lamacq's BBC 6 Music show today from 16:00 BST.

The programme will conclude with a broadcast of the concert, as originally heard on BBC Radio 1 in 1996.

  18. Jamie T's new track Power Over Men gets first spin

    Jamie T

Jamie T has shared another taster from his forthcoming fourth album Trick, with new track Power Over Men debuting on Radio 1.

The song - which follows the single Tinfoil Boy - was Annie Mac's Hottest Record last night.

He told Annie it showed off a different side of the album to Tinfoil Boy.

"We're moving around a lot on this record so far but it's a good thing I think," he said.

"It's one of those songs that was a real rarity. I kind of wrote it in one afternoon and recorded it the next day, which doesn't normally happen in the way we work. So it was a real refreshing thing for us."

Recorded in London and Detroit, Trick is due for release on 2 September and Jamie kicks off an 18-date UK and Ireland tour later that month.

  19. Janelle Monae debuts new track from The Get Down

    Janelle Monae

The soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's new series The Get Down is shaping up to be a corker - with Janelle Monae the latest artist to share a track written for the musical drama.

The show, which hits Netflix on Friday, tells the story of the birth of hip-hop and features contributions from exec producer Nas, Grandmaster Flash and Miguel - who shared his disco-inspired song Cadillac last week.

Monae's Hum Along & Dance (Gotta Get Down) premiered on Beats 1 last night and the singer chatted to presenter Ebro Darden.

She told him she was inspired by "the essence of Jackson 5" for the track and revealed about how she got involved with the show:

Quote Message: I'm friends with Baz Luhrmann, who is just an incredible visionary and director... When he started working on The Get Down he reached out to me immediately, we met, he showed me the trailer and I was just blown away. He has a very unique style. I mean you guys have seen Romeo and Juliet, you've seen Moulin Rouge, and when he mixes hip-hop in that it's so unique and so special and it was just something that I wanted to be a part of.

You can listen to the track and the full interview on the Fader website.

  20. Ed Sheeran could face copyright battle over Thinking Out Loud

    Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran could find himself in court over one of his biggest hit songs, wedding favourite Thinking Out Loud, after he was accused of ripping off a soul classic.

The British singer is being sued by the heirs of Ed Townsend - who co-wrote Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On - who have claimed in court papers that Ed's hit copies "the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions" of the iconic 1973 track.

"The Defendants copied the 'heart' of 'Let's' and repeated it continuously throughout 'Thinking,'" the lawsuit said.

It called Ed's hit "strikingly similar".

Neither Ed nor his label or publishing companies have so far responded to the legal action.

It comes two months after California-based musicians Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard sued the Brit and Grammy-winner for $20m over his hit Photograph.

They claim his song has "verbatim, note-for-note" similarities to their 2009 track Amazing - which was released by former X Factor winner Matt Cardle in 2010.
