Muslim girls' basketball team fight hijab ban
A group of Muslim basketball players from Bradford say a ban on wearing the hijab during competitive games means they'll never be allowed to take part.

David Hoare, who chairs the education watchdog Ofsted, has apologised for any offence he caused, when he described the Isle of Wight as a "ghetto" where there's inbreeding.

He said he wanted to highlight the unacceptably poor performance of schools there during a speech made in Leeds.
The Isle of Wight Council called the comments "truly offensive".

Bradford man guilty of more than 40 sex offences
A Bradford man, who has pleaded guilty to more than 40 sex offences has been told he could face the rest of his life in prison.
Philip Longbottom, 66, of Oakdale Drive in Shipley, appeared before Bradford Crown Court today where he admitted to 24 offences against six victims, mostly children, over four decades.
Longbottom, had already pleaded guilty to a further 20 offences and was remanded in custody.

The judge warned him he could face 'life in prison or an extended sentence' when he is sentenced next month.

A Muslim cleric who conducted a wedding ceremony for a Bradford woman who was allegedly murdered in a so-called honour killing, has said he was threatened by her family.
Samia Shahid, who was 28, died last month in Pakistan. Police there say she was strangled.
Her second husband claims she was killed because her family disapproved of their marriage.

Eastgate Roundabout roadworks causing second day of delays

For the second day in a row, the road works at the Eastgate roundabout in Leeds are causing long delays in the city.
Avoid it if you can, currently it's affecting traffic coming into the city and up Duke Street...
I'd say Leeds does pretty well for parks, but the council has decided to give people the city another one.
Next week a "pop up park" will appear between the Art Gallery and the Raddison Hotel, just off the Headrow.

This was spotted in Burley, apparently it appeared over the last week. It seems that a lot of people are parking up to play Pokemon Go.
Seems that someone's getting annoyed with the increased traffic. So don't park there, you hear?
Dog left alone for two weeks kept alive by food passed through window
A dog that was left alone for two weeks in a house in Knottingley, was only kept alive by people passing food through a small broken window.
West Yorkshire Police, council officers and the RSPCA forced their way into the house where they found the dog in "extremely bad state of health" and living in filthy, squalled conditions without food or water.
The dog is now at a vets. The RSPCA say an investigation is underway and that they can't comment further at this time.
Leeds gears up for Pride 2016
This weekend the Leeds Pride march will celebrate its 10th birthday. It's one of the biggest in the country, organisers say that 35,000 people are expected to attend.
The event, which brings together Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities, brought two-and-a-half million pounds into the city last year.

A new £6m air ambulance is set to take to the skies next month after charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance took delivery of the helicopter.
The state of the art chopper will serve five million people across Yorkshire providing life-saving help to more than 1,000 people a year.

Teenage driver arrested after car 'boxed-in'
A 15-year-old was arrested after reports a car was being driven erratically around the streets of Castleford last night.
It looks as though it only ended when the car was "boxed in" at this underpass.

Dog left alone for two weeks kept alive by food passed through window
A dog that was left alone for two weeks in a house in Knottingley, was only kept alive by people passing food through a small broken window.
West Yorkshire Police, council officers and the RSPCA forced their way into the house where they found the dog in "extremely bad state of health" and living in filthy, squalled conditions without food or water.
The dog is now at a vets. The RSPCA say an investigation is underway and that they can't comment further at this time.
