We've tracked down the Essex hospice nurse who has brought the internet to tears after she was filmed singing an Adele song to patients.

Emma Young, of St Helena's Hospice in Colchester, told BBC Essex she's been working at the centre for about a year. 

Asked why she picked Make You Feel My Love, which was originally released by Bob Dylan, Ms Young said: "It's a nice song to play at the hospice as it could mean something to somebody.

"The patients close their eyes, relax and some of them sing along and enjoy it."

On the day Ryanair said it has plans to cutting its number of flights from Stansted Airport post Brexit, Easyjet has announced it's creating thousands of new jobs which are likely to benefit the county.

The airliner said it was hiring about 600 new UK-based cabin crew, with a number of those likely to be working from Southend and Stansted airports. 

However, the firm hasn't yet given any specific breakdown of where the posts will be based.

We're lucky enough to have one of the longest coastlines in the UK, but as we've heard today it does come with a risk. 

The RNLI says the number of rescue incidents involving kayakers and canoeists has increased significantly over the last few years.

If you're planning on heading out to sea in a kayak, here's a few suggestions from the lifeboats charity to help you stay safe:

• Wear clothing appropriate for your trip and the weather
• Always paddle with others. Make sure that someone ashore also knows your plans and what time to expect you back
• Inform the Coastguard of your plans when departing for lengthy sea expeditions
• Check the tide, wind and weather before launching
• Carry a means of calling for help. Take a waterproof VHF radio and two flares – one parachute and one pinpoint

Southend United midfielder Michael Timlin will miss six weeks of action after straining his hamstring in a pre-season friendly against West Ham.

The 31-year-old, who missed the final nine League One games of last season, had been looking at a return to the starting line-up.

Timlin is joined on the sidelines by fellow midfielder Anthony Wordsworth, who also has a hamstring problem.

Earlier we told you that Ryanair was cutting the frequency of its flights from Stansted Airport this winter following the vote to leave the European Union.

"She really brought a smile to everyone's faces", the hospice wrote.

The defence has started its summing up in the trial of a Canvey Island man who's accused of murdering a woman last November.

Anthony Ayres, 49, of Fairlop Avenue, is accused of killing Kelly Pearce, 36, in a "frenzied attack", but he has denied murder.

The barrister has told the jury at Chelmsford Crown Court they should try the case on the facts and not be mislead by the defendant's prior convictions for violence against his partners. 

The trial continues.

The investigation into the attack on Simon Dobbin had been "thorough and complex", Essex Police says.

Details have been released of the men who are to face charges linked to the attack on football fan Simon Dobbin following a nil-nil draw between Southend United and Cambridge United in March last year.

Mr Dobbin, 41, from Suffolk, suffered a serious head injury during the fracas between fans outside the Railway Pub in East Street, Southend.

Ryan Carter, 20, who is unemployed, from York Road in Southend, has already been charged with affray after answering bail on Friday.

Ian Young, 40, an electrician, of Brightwell Avenue, Westcliff, has been summonsed to face charges of assisting an offender and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas or an electrical incapacitation device

All of the men are to due to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on 2 September.

Grant Scott was onboard his boat when he saw the man fall off his kayak and "go under".

"He was trying to swim against the current... I knew I couldn't swim that far with my clothes on, so by the time I'd got my clothes off - he'd gone under.

"Seeing him go like that is tragic. If he'd held on to the canoe he'd been there long enough for the lifeboat to get him," Mr Scott said.
