It stars Hall as Thomas Newton, a man who is trapped on earth unable to die, "his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love".

  11. Drake tops the US Billboard charts... again

    Drake

It's been three months since we first told you about Drake's new album Views.

It has now spent 11 (non-consecutive) weeks at number one on the US Billboard 200 albums chart.

That's the most chart-topping weeks since Taylor Swift’s 1989, which ended its run on its 11th week in 2015.

The last album to lead for more than 11 weeks was the Frozen movie soundtrack, which notched up 13 weeks in 2014.

In the UK he's also looking for a record, having spent 15 straight weeks at number one with hit single One Dance.

The Canadian rapper has equaled Wet Wet Wet's 15 weeks for Love Is All Around in 1994 and is just a week off the 16 weeks achieved by Bryan Adams track (Everything I Do) I Do It For You in 1991.

In the UK album chart, former BBC Sound of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka overcame anxiety over his songs to claim his first number one with Love & Hate.

  12. Motown Musical to close Broadway doors earlier than planned

    Berry Gordy

How is this for magnificent timing?

Minutes after the curtain call at this weekend's opening night of Motown: The Musical on Broadway, the cast were told by producers that the show was ending its return early.

Nearly four months early to be precise.

The show, which tells the story of Berry Gordy's iconic record label, was expected to run until 13 November but following lacklustre box-office sales, their final bow will be on 31 July.

The musical's told from the perspective of Gordy (pictured top), who wrote the story.

Actor's Chester Gregory and Allion Semmes, who play Gordy and Diana Ross respectively, both tweeted their disappointment.

  13. Radiohead's Thom Yorke sends us to sleep

    BBC Radio 1

    Thom Yorke

Before you worry we're being unnecessarily rude about Thom Yorke, it's exactly the reaction the Radiohead frontman was hoping we'd have to his special "bedtime mix" which he recorded for Radio 1.

Yorke's playlist of "tunes to fall asleep to" was compiled for Phil Taggart's show and features a solo version of the Radiohead song Bloom as well as tracks by Laurie Spiegel, Luke Abbott and James Holden.

You can listen again on the iPlayer now, but it's probably safest to bookmark it for bedtime...

  14. Arrests at Guns N' Roses New Jersey gig

    Guns N' Roses at Coachella

Up to 30 people were arrested at a Guns N' Roses concert in New Jersey, according to local reports.

Police told New Jersey 105.1 radio that at least 11 people were arrested for trying to buy drugs at the show at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Saturday.

Other offences included disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer.

The band have been on tour since reuniting at the Coachella festival (pictured above) earlier in the year.

They were playing two nights at the venue to crowds of about 55,000 people.

    Sia

In other musical casting news (scroll down for Rihanna's new acting gig) - Sia has been given her own character in My Little Pony: The Movie.

She'll voice Songbird Serenade, who seems to have taken a lot of style inspiration from Sia's own striking look (she can't see out of her hair either), as well as contributing two original songs to the soundtrack...

Sia joins a stellar voice cast including Broadway actress Kristen Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Taye Diggs, Emily Blunt and Uzo Aduba. The movie's due out in Autumn 2017.

  16. Ash to be presented with special Oh Yeah legend award

    Tim Wheeler

Twenty years after the release of their debut album, Ash are to receive a special award in their native Northern Ireland.

The Oh Yeah Legend Award will be presented to the band followed by a live performance at the Mandela Hall in Belfast on 11 November.

The award recognises the contribution of an artist or industry figure from Northern Ireland.

Formed in 1992, the band - led by singer Tim Wheeler - have recorded two UK chart topping albums and 18 Top 40 singles.

Charlotte Dryden of the Oh Yeah Music Centre said: “Ash have played a major part in the story of Northern Irish music and in the story of Oh Yeah too. Our centre is named after the very song which features on their debut album, 1977.

"How brilliant to finally honour and celebrate the band with an Oh Yeah Legend Award."

Previous recipients include The Divine Comedy, Therapy? and The Undertones.

  17. Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell laments EDM at his festival

    Perry Farrell

Former Jane's Addiction singer and founder of the Lollapalloza music festival Perry Farrell has bemoaned the impact electronic dance music has had on his own event.

"I hate EDM. I want to vomit it out of my nostrils," Farrell - whose band is among the festival's headliners - told the Chicago Tribune.

"I can't stand what it did to what I love, which is house music, which was meditative, psychedelic. I sometimes cringe at my own festival."

Lollapalooza, which is being held next weekend in Chicago, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Farrell, however, concedes that to ban EDM, "you'd have to do away with pop," adding "if you want to do a festival you can't do away with pop."

  18. Rihanna lands new acting role in Bates Motel

    Rihanna

Some exciting casting news to catch up on from Comic Con in Las Vegas over the weekend - as Rihanna's been added to the cast of Bates Motel for what will be its fifth and final season.

Producers played a video of Rihanna announcing the news (with a mild swear word) that she would play Marion Crane.

"Hello Comic-Con it's your girl Riri... I'm about to check into the Bates Motel very soon," she said.

"Guess what else? Guess who's playing Marion?"

The series is a modern-day prequel to classic Hitchcock movie Psycho, which sees the character of Marion Crane brutally murdered in the infamous shower scene set at Bates Motel.

Producers said: "We heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.

They added: "We wanted her to very much be her own character and we felt in order to do that we needed to find someone who was very, very special to play Marion.”

Bates Motel is shown on Universal TV and Netflix in the UK - the fifth series starts production this autumn and is due to air next year.
