Two men have been arrested after a vehicle was stolen and then set alight in bushes alongside the A14 near the Orwell Bridge.

Police were contacted at about 05:20 to reports that a vehicle had collided with a parked car at Siloam Place, Ipswich, before being driven away.

A short while later officers saw smoke coming from the Sandy Hill Lane area, and reports came in of thick black smoke coming from bushes beside the east-bound carriageway of the A14

They found a vehicle on fire and the two 29-year-old men were arrested a few minutes later. They're in custody at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

The A14 is partially blocked and there's slow traffic eastbound at J51 (A140 Needham Market) because of a collision.

A Lowestoft man who was jailed as a teenager for the murder of a terminally ill cancer sufferer, has lost a bid for an early chance of parole.

Aaron Breffitt was 16 when he and an older friend, James Killingback, set upon 55-year-old John Vry as he made his way home from a chip shop in December 2008.

The following year at Ipswich Crown Court, the pair were convicted of murder, with Breffitt ordered to serve at least 12 years.

Mr Justice William Davis, hearing Breffitt's application for a cut in his term to allow an earlier release, said "A murderer's term can only be cut if they can be shown to have made 'exceptional and unforeseen progress' in prison."

He went on to say that as this was not the case, there would be no recommendation for a reduction in tariff.

A medieval farm in Lavenham is among the remains spotted by Historic England, which has been taking aerial pictures to mark the Festival of Archaeology, which finishes on Sunday.

Crop marks in this picture reveal a late medieval farmstead showing the farm's field boundaries and tracks linking it to neighbouring farms.

The farms were abandoned after changes in farming practice but it shows how generations of families lived on the land, experts have said.

A hospital in Newmarket that helps mental health patients, is to close in the autumn, with the potential loss of 72 jobs.

Beech Hospital in Fordham Road provides specialist assessment, care and treatment for men with mental health disorders, intellectual disabilities, behaviours that challenge and complex needs.

The hospital says it's because NHS ENgland wants to move more patients with learning disabilities into the community.

But some patients will have to move to beds elsewhere.

Ben Gummer says he's worried about the care provided in homes in Suffolk run by Bupa, adding: "I have received complaints about Anglesea Heights [in Ipswich].

"The response from Bupa, I have to say, was inadequate".

The former health minister was also critical of the fact that Bupa declined an invitation to be interviewed by BBC Suffolk to justify what they're doing, choosing to issue a statement instead.

He said: "Just running away and giving a written statement is a further sign of a lack of management responsibility when we have a pattern of very poor performance in Suffolk."

An Ipswich man who has a relative living at one of Bupa's failing care homes says: "You can't blame the staff, it's the attitude of the management."

Marvin Thomas was speaking after it was revealed that four out of the five homes run by Bupa in the county have been rated as inadequate in the last six months. The latest was Chilton Meadows in Stowmarket just yesterday. The other one requires improvement.

Bupa has issued a statement saying: "We have put in place a dedicated team to address the issues raised by the CQC, so that we bring lasting improvements to every home and provide consistently high quality of care."

It continues: "The health and wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority."

Four out of the five care homes run by private provider Bupa in Suffolk have been rated inadequate with the remaining one requiring improvement.

Just yesterday the CQC reported on BUPA run Chilton Meadows in Stowmarket. It was downgraded from "requires Improvement" to "inadequate".

The CQC report said both residents and relatives felt they were unsafe and people were being put a risk of significant harm.

The homes have private clients in them, as well as 162 council funded residents.

A woman in her 30s has reported being raped in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday night.

The woman has told police she was sitting on a bench in Out Risbygate just before 23:00 when a man sat next to her, began kissing and cuddling here, and then exposed himself.

She managed to get away from him and began walking home, but the man followed her and raped her there, before leaving in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The players are being put through their paces on the main pitch, watched by thousands of fans in the East of England Co-operative stand.
