Bosses of a Corby logistics company have joined a campaign to have an Enterprise Zone in the town. 

At the end of last year, the government rejected Corby's bid when 26 new or extended zones were announced.

Today, local MP Tom Pursglove has been visiting RCS Logistics on the Willowbrook Industrial Estate to drum up support.

The elderly and disabled population of sex offenders prison Rye Hill is continuing to put pressure on the healthcare system, says an annual report.

The prison, near Daventry, was remodelled in April 2014 and now 40% of inmates are over-50s and 33% registered disabled.

The report highlights bed watches and end of life care have put "pressure on the staffing of the prison as a whole", and there is a shortage of full time carers for the disabled.

The report also reveals that bowls and armchair exercises have been introduced as use of the gym has decreased.

Fresh concerns have been raised over "inadequate" health care provision at Rye Hill Prison near Daventry.

The annual Independent Monitoring Board report says it's worrying that required improvements are taking too long.

The prison, which holds about 620 sex offenders, failed a Care Quality Commission audit last year.

 A re-inspection in April found that, despite some improvements, it still failed to meet legal requirements regarding inmate care plans and suitably trained health care staff.

However, the report does highlight that Rye Hill is now a "more settled" prison.

But at RCS Logistics (pictured) on the Willowbrook Industrial Estate, MP Tom Pursglove says he is "keeping the momentum up" for his campaign.

Mr Pursglove says he's going to "keep making the argument that this is something that'll benefit Corby".

Enterprise Zones are created by the government offering business rates relief, superfast broadband, simplified planning and other incentives to current and new businesses in a designated area.

The manager of Turweston air tower has said on Facebook the airfield will be closed until Saturday morning.

A pilot has been killed after his light aircraft came down at the Buckinghamshire aerodrome this morning. Investigations are under way.

The pilot killed in the light air crash was the only person on board, police have confirmed.

Police and ambulance services were called to Turweston Aerodrome at just before 11.30.

An air crash investigation is under way.

Thames Valley Police has confirmed a man has died after a light air crash at Turweston Airfield near Brackley.

Emergency services attended the scene at about 11:30, where the pilot was pronounced dead.

Police say the death is not believed to be suspicious.

Under cross-examination, Edward Tenniswood denied the suggestion he was scratched on his neck and arms while raping India Chipchase.

The accused told Birmingham Crown Court: "It was more masochistic on her part than aggressive." 

He demonstrated in court how his thumbs touched as he gripped her with both hands around her neck. 

Earlier he told the trial she led his hands to her neck and placed pressure on them with her hands during sex.

He said: "I'm conservative sexually, this was rather kinky... I wanted to please her... I guess I held my hands too long and caused her death... she obviously passed out after this neck pressure."

Mr Tenniswood went on: "No disrespect to her... I'm just inexpert at this mildly kinky sexual practice, so out of sheer inexperience and incompetence I just kept that pressure on too long and too firmly".

Mr Tenniswood said he hadn't "to his shame and embarrassment" realised India Chipchase had stopped breathing. In graphic detail he described in court how he dressed the naked India Chipchase and said he was unaware of her not breathing. "I was thinking she must be pretty out of it," he said.

The defendant, who previously told the court he has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, was asked why he put on vinyl gloves, which he said he had an "odd habit" of wearing. He agreed he would have put them on when he dressed India's body.

Mr Tenniswood, 52 of Stanley Road in Northampton, denies rape and murder and the trial continues.

Edward Tenniswood 52, said he did not believe India Chipchase, who was found dead at his house, was very drunk when she left the taxi to walk to his house with him. 

He said he was drunk, telling the jurors he "started drinking at 10 in the morning, I probably had more red wine in my body than blood".

He said he opened the front door of his rented terraced house to let her in, saying: "I'm a 'ladies first' man... I was a host, [India] was my guest".

Prosecutor Christopher Donnellan QC, said India Chipchase, 20, had needed to support herself in his house as she was drunk. "She simply could not have carried two drinks up the stairs while carrying her clutch bag, could she?"

The accused disagreed and suggested a dummy could be brought into court to illustrate the points he wished to make. He denied hiding India Chipchase's mobile in his house.

He was asked if he had hit India Chipchase and was asked to look at photographs of a number of injuries on her body. He said he was not aware she had been bleeding and that any injuries would have resulted from a fall she had from his sofa.

He was asked if he gripped India's arm during love-making. He replied he had grabbed her arm when she had fallen from the sofa.

Mr Donnellan said: "Did you have sex with her when she was unconscious?" 

Mr Tenniswood, who denies rape and murder, said: "It was completely consensual conscious love-making".

The jury at Birmingham Crown Court was shown CCTV pictures of Edward Tenniswood standing close to India Chipchase outside the club - his arm near her. He had earlier been described as closing in on her - he said he was a very tactile person.

Christopher Donnellan QC, prosecuting, said: "You have got a very drunk girl, what were you going to do when you got back to the house?"

Mr Tenniswood replied: "I hadn't actually thought forensically... I wanted to get home and have a drink... we might drink and have a few cigarettes". He denied thinking of having sex with her.

Mr Tenniswood was asked why he didn't give his home address to the taxi driver who dropped them off away from his house.

"You did not want the taxi driver to know where you are going with that girl," said Mr Donnellan. "It's a horrible way of interpreting events," replied Mr Tenniswood, who denies rape and murder.

Mr Donnellan suggested to Mr Tenniswood he was interested in India Chipchase. The accused replied: "I am an annoyingly inquisitive person, interested in most of the world, it's a gift from the gods". 

Mr Donnellan said: "And the gift from the gods for you... is a young pretty girl, is that right?".

The defendant replied: "The priority was then to get some more alcohol."

Mr Donnellan said: "What I am putting to you is that you saw a pretty young girl and that you were interested in her..."

"That is incredibly far-fetched", Mr Tenniswood replied.

The man accused of raping and murdering India Chipchase in Northampton has told Birmingham Crown Court he once dated a famous model.

Edward Tenniswood, 52, said he had been "lucky enough to have had some extremely attractive girlfriends, some of whom are fashion models" despite having "not a hugely successful life".

The court heard magazine pictures of young women were found in his rented terraced house in Stanley Road, Northampton. Images included cuttings of the girl band Little Mix, whose members he described as "quite plain".

Last week we brought you news of the death of Alan Mills, the former Mayor of Rothwell.

He was a Kettering Borough Councillor and Town Councillor and also heavily involved in the Rowell Fair, acting as chairman and bailiff of the Rowell Fair Society in May as well as singing the 1980 hit (Do) The Hucklebuck by Northamptonshire band Coast To Coast.

The Northamptonshire Telegaph today features tributes to Mr Mills from his family.

Northamptonshire Police say they now recruiting a new "hate crime coordinator" who will train all officers to deal with abuse.

The hate crime unit at the force was closed more than two years ago, but Ch Insp Gary Ashton said "all officers" would now deal with any incidents rather than a specific unit.

Mr Ashton said the idea came from the force in Leicestershire where "it has been very successful".
