Investigators haven't been able to confirm the cause of the blaze at the former mental asylum, but it's believed to have been started deliberately.

  2. Road closed following double deaths

    Caroline Kingdon

    BBC Local Live

A man and a woman have died following a road traffic collision in Methwold Hythe.

A green Mini Cooper left Severalls Road and collided with a tree between 19:00 on Sunday and 07:00 today.

The road remains closed between Thornham Road and the Broad Drove junctions while officers assess the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Norfolk Constabulary.

  4. A12 partially blocked

    BBC Travel

Emergency services are at the scene of an incident on the A12 in Great Yarmouth.

The road is partially blocked, resulting in slow traffic, at the A1243 Pasteur Road junction because of an overturned car on the roundabout.

  5. Housing strategy is 'flawed'

A population explosion is expected in parts of the county by 2024, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

South Norfolk will see the greatest rise - 12.5 - with Norwich and Breckland expecting just over 7%. It is anticipated all areas of Norfolk will see at least 4% more people living here over the next eight years.

An updated plan - the Joint Core Strategy - published two years ago to deal with the main pressure areas of growth outlined that a minimum of 21,000 homes are needing in Broadland, south Norfolk and Norwich alone.

Stephen Heard, who heads up Snub - Stop Norwich Urbanisation, said the strategy for housing in and around the city is flawed.

Quote Message: The whole concept of building an eco settlement is to make themselves sufficient in terms of public transport and job opportunities... we don't see any of that coming, all we see now with the Northern Distributor Road is a leage dual carriageway road with no development to support it." from Stephen Heard Stop Norwich Urbanisation

  7. Increasing population 'a threat' to rural Norfolk

    Tim Addicott

    BBC Radio Norfolk

Norfolk's rural landscape is under threat by mass strategic development.

That's the concern being raised by the county's branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE). It comes as figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggest all areas will see population rise within 10 years by up to 12.5%.

CPRE Norfolk's senior planning trustee, David Hook, says massive parts of countryside in Broadland, Norwich and south Norfolk will be lost.

Quote Message: There are 72,000 houses going to be built to 2036 if strategic housing market assessments are followed - that will increase the population of the Norwich area to 516,400... we will kill the golden goose that is rural Norfolk if this happens." from David Hook CPRE, Norfolk

Many thanks to Ben Gadsby-Williams for this stunning photograph of meteors over Norfolk on Friday night.

  9. South Norfolk population set to increase

    Tim Addicott

    BBC Radio Norfolk

The population of south Norfolk is set to rise by more than 12% over the next decade, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

It's predicted all parts of the county will see an increase but the biggest impact is likely to be in Norwich, Breckland and the south of the county, meaning more pressure on housing and services.

    New homes under construction

South Norfolk District Council is already meeting those demands, says leader John Fuller, adding that it's important for councils to match population growth and housing formation with quality of life.

Quote Message: You have to have a long-term plan... once you've got an idea of how many houses, you can communicate that to the water companies, the electricity companies - it takes 10 to 20 years to sort bits of infrastructure out - we're planning and have delivered between 1,000 and 1,500 homes for each of the last 10 years or so and that was from a plan starting in 2006." from John Fuller Leader, South Norfolk District Council

  10. Hospital fire believed to be suspicious

    Caroline Kingdon

    BBC Local Live

Arson is believed to be the cause of a fire at a former mental asylum on the outskirts of Norwich.

The derelict Old Plumstead Hall was gutted in the blaze, which broke out early on Sunday morning. More than 50 firefighters attended the scene, and a controlled demolition was carried out for safety reasons in the afternoon.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer David Ashworth says the building had stood empty for a number of years, with all windows and doors boarded up, and there was "no obvious source of ignition".

  11. A busy few days for Norfolk's fire crews

    Caroline Kingdon

    BBC Local Live

Fire investigators are looking into the circumstances around three big blazes in Norfolk in recent days.

On Friday afternoon a coach caught fire on the A11 between Wymondham and Attleborough. All of the 71 passengers, who were returning to Luton after a day trip to Great Yarmouth, got off safely.

  16. 'You'll know when it happens' - Alex Neil on Canaries striker search

    Chris Goreham

    BBC Radio Norfolk sport

Norwich City's need for more striking options became even more apparent at the weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Sheffield Wednesday

Cameron Jerome was the only senior striker in the squad with Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty left out and youngster Carlton Morris on the bench instead.

    Carlton Morris

Manager Alex Neil has made no secret of his desire to bring in a new front man all summer. He told me: "We all know we need a new striker, it just so happens that we're short in one position but that's not news to anybody we just need to try and get that work done as quickly as we can."

  17. Norfolk need wickets on second day at Cumberland

    Chris Goreham
