  2. Female cyclist assaulted in Scunthorpe by group of women

    A female cyclist was assaulted on Saturday 13 August at 2am as she rode along Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe.

    Three women chased her, pulling at her clothing which caused her to fall from her bike.

    She suffered bruising and swelling to her right forearm which did not require hospital treatment.

    Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses.

  4. Landlord who 'put money ahead of the lives of his tenants' jailed

    A 'penny pinching' landlord has been jailed for five months after failing to equip his properties with adequate fire safety.

    Around 20 people escaped a fire at the property on Bursar Street in Cleethorpes after a fire started on the ground floor - but no fire alarm sounded in August 2014.

    Peter Kelson QC said the Ken Newsham was ‘more concerned with his own wealth than the welfare of his tenants’ and said it was ‘good fortune that no-one died’

    Landlord Ken Newsham today pleaded guilty to four counts of not providing an adequate fire assessment, working fire alarms, or sufficient fire doors.

    He was also ordered to pay £100,000 in costs.

    Dixon is expected to make his 100th career appearance following his return from a rib injury.

  7. Hull CCG to be major partner for City of Culture

    Hull City of Culture 2017 will get more money to try and reduce social isolation and encourage physical activity. 

    The idea is to try and create a lasting legacy of people in Hull looking after their health. 

    Hull Clinical Commissioning Group says they'll be giving £450,000 and work alongside organisers to try and make this happen.

  9. HistorIc Bridlington boat re-imagined in 3D

    A boat which sank near Bridlington 100 years ago is being re-imagined in 3D.

    HMS Falmouth sank on the 20th August 1916 after being torpedoed by U-boats after the Battle of Jutland. 

    A century on, Historic England have used digital technology to create a 3D image of the ship underwater.

  11. Investigation launched following attempted arson attack at Scunthorpe centre

    An investigation has been launched after a group of youths tried to set fire to a Scunthorpe community centre. 

    The incident happened yesterday evening between 7.30pm and 8.15pm.

    It's believed a group of around five youths, aged between 16 and 18, climbed on the roof and tried to set fire to it. 

    An exercise class was being held inside the centre at the time. 

  12. Students asked 'why the Hull not?'

    Students who received their A-level results are being urged to consider Hull College as a destination to study for a degree.

    This advert spotted in Leeds station asks #WhyTheHullNot? and indeed, why the Hull not as it has a lot going for it, such as being named as European Capital of Culture 2017.

  14. Tourism figures for Hull continue to rise

    Latest figures show that visitors to Hull have continued to increase over the last four years, supporting around 5,915 jobs in 2015, up 12% since 2012. 

    The local visitor economy is now worth an estimated £274 million to the city.

  15. Bridlington RNLI help boat which ran aground

    Bridlington RNLI were called out yesterday morning to help a boat which ran aground at the South Landing in Flamborough.

    They successfully towed it out to sea.

  16. Hull City Council says letter on waste centre charges 'sent in error'

    Hull City Council say a letter sent to Dove Hospice about restricting access to waste centres was sent in error.

    A consultation will take place before a final decision is made. 

    Dove hospice say scrapping free access for charities to Household Waste & Recycling Centres would put more financial pressure on them.
