Cassius' Ibifornia artwork: 'The one with the volcano!'
CassiusCopyright: Cassius
French DJ and production duo Cassius - aka Philippe Zdar and Hubert Boombass - release their new album Ibifornia today, their first LP since 2006.
Featuring a host of star collaborators, from OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder to Beastie Boys star Mike D the name is a portmanteau of Ibiza and California, a new place they're hoping to transport us to with their "joyful house".
The artwork, featuring a volcano and a tropical land was a big deal for the duo and they managed to get renowned Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan on board, as Philippe explained when we caught up with him this week.
Quote Message: We thought of the Velvet Underground artwork with the banana. I was obsessed with this sleeve for numerous reasons but one of them was that you can say, 'oh you know, it's the sleeve with the banana'. When we [produced] Phoenix's album Amadeus I said 'what can we say? It's the sleeve with the bombs!' We were obsessed by Maurizio Cattelan - a big Italian artist, untouchable, one of the leading 20 most expensive artists. I managed to get his email and he said 'yeah why not, lets meet. And then he and [collaborator] Pierpaolo Ferrari come, we play the music and he say, 'oh, we could make a volcano'. And then in my head it was, 'it's the sleeve with the volcano!' And we were so happy.

Quote Message: Nobody is going to see the vinyl, nobody is going to have it on CD - it's going to be on the internet, small like this. I could ask my dog to do the sleeve! But no, we wanted to keep on doing it this way... old school.

Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers reflects on Reading Festival
Getty ImagesCopyright: Getty Images
Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers has been in a reflective mood ahead of their return to the Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend.
They first headlined back in 1994 and Flea admitted to Matt Everitt from 6 Music he couldn't believe they were asked to do it back then...
Quote Message: I remember that show in '94 and being like 'wow we're headlining this giant festival, is that real? Are we like the ones?'. I remember going 'I guess they ran out of guys to get or something and they had to get us.' And now it's like we've obviously been a popular band for a long time and I get it, we're a headline rock act.

I remember going 'I guess they ran out of guys to get or something and they had to get us.' And now it's like we've obviously been a popular band for a long time and I get it, we're a headline rock act.
But he said they often can't believe where they have ended up...
Quote Message: Sometimes I do have those moments of reflection when it's like 'who would have thunk when we were kids that it would have ended up being this massive world wide thing, playing stadiums around the world?' But it all happened in a way that made sense to me. If we would have made our first record and gone from being little street urchins to this massive band [it would have been different]. The biggest jump was when we made Blood Sugar and that was really shocking and weird to me. But... it's always been this natural growing process fulls of ups and downs and tensions and releases and really difficult alienating times and really loving connected love and light times.

He said they feel a special connection with their fans when they play live and have no plans to stop...

Freddie Mercury honoured with Twitter emoji as part of campaign
Freddie Mercury fans, from James Bay to Bill Bailey, have been paying tribute to the singer as part of a new Twitter campaign by the Mercury Phoenix Trust, called Freddie for a Day-O.

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer has won a copyright infringement case and recieved an apology from a composer who now says it was a mistake to sue over his music from 12 Years a Slave.
In the letter Richard Friedman said he deeply regrets taking legal action based on the mistaken conclusion of a music expert.
"I sincerely apologise to you for bringing the lawsuit and for the time and expense you incurred in its defence,'' he wrote.
His case has now been dismissed from a federal court in LA.
Zimmer, who has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won one Oscar for his score for The Lion King, released a statement offering hope to other artists going through the same thing...
Quote Message: I hope this case's successful conclusion will persuade other artists who face similar claims that justice can be achieved. I also hope that this dismissal will discourage other plaintiffs who may be motivated by recent high-profile music copyright lawsuits from filing meritless infringement claims.

Florence on working with 'kindred spirit' Tim Burton

Florence Welch has been talking about collaborating with Tim Burton on Wish That You Were Here, the song she wrote for the soundtrack of Burton's new film Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (scroll down the page to hear it).
The singer said she was a big fan of both the director and the best-selling Ransom Riggs novel the film's based on...
Quote Message: I've always been a huge fan of Tim Burton’s. We have a very similar sensibility. It’s the kind of dark, dark romance of his work - so beautiful and whimsical, but with an element of darkness to it. That’s something that I always try and achieve in my work, too. I knew we would get along really well working together and we did. I feel like we’re coming from a similar place of quite frantic imaginations trying to get the words out before the pictures in our heads disappear. He feels like a kindred spirit.

Florence also revealed she had sent the Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland director a very cool note about six years ago...
Quote Message: I was in Australia on tour there for the first time and visited an exhibition of all his work. I wanted to leave him a message and all I had on me was an x-ray of my hand, as I had just broken my finger. So I wrote on the x-ray and gave it to the gallery to pass on and never knew if he got it. When we met for the first time, he told me it’s been hanging up in his office ever since.

Let's kick off New Music Friday with a brand new Florence and the Machine track, Wish That You Were Here, which has been unveiled this morning.
The song is for the soundtrack for the upcoming Tim Burton movie Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, about a school for kids with supernatural powers.
Florence explained the charming idea behind the song...
Quote Message: Wish That You Were Here is a song about the idea that love is a journey and a risk. Having been on tour, I’ve lived in a sort of magical time bubble, where the days almost blend together. It’s amazing, but it comes at a cost - a cost of leaving the people you love behind for a year or two.

Quote Message: You kind of feel like if you could sing a song into the wind, maybe the wind could take it to them in a way that you can’t with a text or a call. You just want to send your love in a different way, in a way to somehow reach the unreachable.
