  3. Watch: The charity that helps retired police dogs

    Oli Constable

A charity which helps retired police dogs remain with their handlers is appealing to the public to support their fundraising police dog competition tomorrow.

Fireside K9 is run entirely by volunteers and helps the dogs which have dedicated their lives to working in often dangerous situations. Handlers become solely responsible for them on retirement and they can't get insurance for vets' bills.

The competition, that will feature South Yorkshire police dogs, is at Temple Newsam in Leeds - and the money raised can mean the difference between life and death for the animals.

  7. Sheffield man grows bananas in his back garden

    Howard Pressman

    Presenter, BBC Radio Sheffield

    Bananas... in Sheffield?

We're not talking ripe and ready to eat in a supermarket, instead Austin Grant is growing them in his back garden.

    Austin with banana plant

Austin bought the plant from a high street garden centre about nine years ago and they're now about 15ft high.

Now he's starting to benefit from the fruits of his labour and the banana fruit is starting to ripen.

He says he knows lots of recipes using bananas, which is a good thing because he has a dozen plants!

    Nick Wilson

    BBC Radio Sheffield

    Cliff Richard

He was never arrested or charged and his case was discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service in June on the grounds of insufficient evidence.

But at the beginning of August an application under the victims' right to review scheme was lodged by an accuser - challenging the decision by the CPS not to pursue a case against Sir Cliff.
