Yorkshire Olympians Jack Laugher and Ed Clancy have paid tribute to volunteers who have helped their careers and want you to vote for this year's Unsung Hero.

Harrogate-born Laugher, who won the men's synchronised 3m springboard in Rio with Chris Mears, pays tribute to former coach Damian Ball.

Clancy, from Barnsley, has won three successive Olympic gold medals in cycling's team pursuit and remembers his first cycling club, Holme Valley Wheelers.

It's only a couple of weeks since the Rio Olympics and some athletes may still be getting used to having that lump of gold around their neck.

Tom Ransley achieved gold in the Men's Eight Rowing, having learned his craft as a member of York City Rowing Club.

On the BBC Radio York Breakfast Show, I asked him if he'd got used to being an Olympic gold medallist:  

People living in Starbeck and Granby in Harrogate are being warned to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries earlier this week.

Three houses were targeted overnight between Sunday 28 August and Monday 29 August, with thieves gaining entry to homes in Avenue Street, Greenfields Avenue and Wedderburn Road through unlocked doors and windows.

Items stolen included purses, wallets, mobiles and tablets along with a quantity of cash.

Insp Penny Taylor says: "With the warmer weather residents may inadvertently leave doors and windows open, which then leaves their property at risk of an opportunistic thief. 

"We advise all residents to check their windows and doors each night before going to bed to ensure their home is secure."

Rugby League will be played at Bootham Crescent for the next two seasons, it's been announced.

A statement from City of York Council says it's come to an agreement with York City that will allow the sport to be played there until the new Community Stadium opens.

However, the transfer of this agreement to a rugby league club is subject to "an adequate resolution of the ongoing ownership matters" at York City Knights.

Under the current ownership, the Knights have nowhere to play next season.

Reigning US Masters champion Danny Willett is backing a plan to put Yorkshire's world famous fairways at the heart of a new nationwide golf tourism campaign which will see special golf trails created featuring clusters of courses in Leeds, Harrogate, York and Sheffield.

I've been telling you today about new figures which reveal the extent of "gull muggings" in North Yorkshire's seaside towns.

According to stats compiled by Scarborough Borough Council, 22 people say they've been the victim of over-enthusiastic seagulls since March, with Scarborough itself worst affected.

Ampleforth Abbey said its Abbot, Cuthbert Madden, 61, had denied any wrongdoing. 

North Yorkshire Police confirmed a man in his 60s had been voluntarily interviewed under caution. 

The allegations date from the 1990s and involve four pupils at the Abbey's school, Ampleforth College.

In October, York will launch this year's Big City Read, and the book chosen is Regeneration by Pat Barker.

There'll be a whole series of talks, lectures, events, performances, all relating to the theme of how the traumas of war brutalised a generation. 

Wendy Kent is part of the team behind the project from York Explore and she's told me why reading is so important - especially later in life:

Bowls organisers believe the sport on a local level is "heading for a train crash" after City of York Council more than doubled maintenance fees for council greens.

Clubs who play on greens at Clarence Gardens, Scarcroft Road, Glen Gardens, The Retreat and West Park have been told fees to maintain the venues would go up from £2,000 a year to £5,000.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays due to an accident involving a car which has left the road on the A1 southbound in Middleton Tyas near Scotch Corner.

The body which runs health services in York meets today for the first time since it was placed in special measures. 

Earlier this year NHS England said leadership, finances, planning and performance at the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) were inadequate.

Its finances were also in the red by over £6m at the end of the last financial year.

TV viewers are being reminded that all users of the iPlayer must now own a TV licence, regardless of whether or not they watch programmes live.

The new rules, which will close the so-called "iPlayer loophole", have come into effect this morning.

Previously, only viewers who were watching shows as they were being broadcast required a licence.

That meant it was legal to watch content after broadcast via the catch-up service without paying the annual £145.50 fee.

The change comes after the government said it wanted to modernise the current system, so those watching catch-up TV do not get "a free ride". 

A 27-year-old woman was left with facial injuries after being attacked by a man in her own home in Colburn, near Richmond.

The victim was assaulted in the lounge of her home in Beechwood Grove at about 19:30 on Tuesday 23 August after the man entered the house through rear patio doors which were open.

He grabbed the woman by her hair and punched her twice in the face before leaving the house via the back garden.

The man's described as between 27 and 31, white, 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build with short dark hair and a pale complexion with gaunt cheeks and stubble on his face. 

He's also described as having a yellow or stained tooth on the upper left side of his mouth.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact police.

Nurseries in York say parents could be forced to pay extra charges for childcare because of a new government scheme which starts in the city today. 

The government's promised 30 hours of free childcare every week to working parents by 2017. 

York is one of the pilot cities for the plan, but nurseries in the area say parents may need to pay to cover a funding shortfall. 

Vanessa Warne runs a nursery in York and says she could lose about £25,000 a year.

However, she believes the scheme is ultimately a good idea:
