  4. Watch: Hillsborough Pokestop 'ill-thought out'

    Kat Harbourne

The man who blasted a Pokestop at the Hillsborough memorial as “distasteful” and “inappropriate" says he doesn't think it's malicious.

A Pokestop is part of the Pokemon GO augmented reality game in which players use their phones to chase animated characters in real-life places.

Ian Richardson has instead put it down to a computer error and says he thinks the landmarks were assigned automatically by the developers software.

    Jenny Cork

    BBC Sheffield news

The online game Pokemon GO has been branded "distasteful" and "inappropriate" after it emerged a memorial in Sheffield to the Hillsborough disaster is being used as a "Pokestop".

Ian Richardson, who is originally from Liverpool but now lives in Sheffield, noticed the Pokestop had been linked to the site.

Pokemon GO is an augmented reality game where users use their smart phone to catch animated characters in real-life places.

Ninety-six fans died in the Hillsborough disaster, the UK's worst sporting disaster, which took place in April 1989.
