    Before I go, here are five things we learned today.

    1. If you see an emotional teenager around this evening, go easy on them, it was GCSE results day.
    2. Leeds festival posters have hardly changed in 17 years.
    3. Don't do anything illegal with compost, the police will come around and take it off you.
    4. Some have been more prepared for the Leeds Festival than others.
    5. In Leeds, we're not a fan of posh fizzy drinks.

  4. Free swimming sessions at Leeds leisure centres this weekend

    Inspired by Team GB's amazing success at Rio 2016, Leeds City Council is offering free swimming sessions at council-run leisure centres this weekend.

    You may not be able to have a go at diving, though, but the offer includes free general swimming and general lane sessions. 

    You can take part at Armley, Aireborough, Holt Park, John Charles Centre for Sport, Morley, Pudsey, Rothwell, Scott Hall and Wetherby.  

    So what are you waiting for? Get your trunks on!

  5. Leeds "swingers club" approved

    A controversial "swingers club" in Armley has been given the go-ahead. It will occupy the site of a former shoe shop.

    Opponents have called the plans "abhorrent" as the club would be 300m from a primary school, but council officers have said they should be approved.   

  6. A muddy start to Leeds Festival 2016

    Thousands of people have been flocking to the Leeds Festival site in Bramham today, the first acts take to the stage tomorrow. 

    It's a wet start, but good to see they've all come well prepared!

  7. Arrest after gun cabinet stolen in Halifax

    A 16-year-old has been arrested after a gun cabinet, containing six rifles and shotguns, was stolen in Halifax.

    Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following the burglary in Barkisland, which happened on Tuesday afternoon.

    The burglars forced the rear patio doors of a house and also took some ammunition. 

    The gun cabinet was recovered after it was discarded and a a 16-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

  8. Watch: Compost used by criminals given to the community

    You'll often hear the police talk about proceeds of crime, where they take item or money gathered by criminals and sell them for charity.

    Well how about a group of cannabis growers who were caught, and their compost seized.. It was then given to Beeston in Bloom so they can grow their flowers!

  9. Man jailed for being drunk on flight

    A man's been jailed today for being drunk on board a flight from Leeds Bradford.

    The Jet 2 flight to Cyprus had to be diverted to Manchester after 21-year-old Joshua Strickland, of Lucas Avenue, Clifton near York, became disruptive on board and threatened a family. 

    He has been jailed for six months as well as being banned from flying with Jet 2 for life.

  11. The Leeds Festival from days gone by

    Just thought you might enjoy some Leeds Festival facts.

    The first Leeds Festival was held in 1999, and this year’s headliners the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were there.

    Back then a day ticket cost £33 and a weekend ticket £78. Now, they're £66 and £213 respectively.

    Brings it all back for me, I used to love Mansun...and look at how far down the list Coldplay are!

  12. West Yorkshire's universities face strike action

    West Yorkshire's five universities could be hit by strike action - depending on the outcome of a union ballot.

    The union Unison has advised staff to reject a 1.1% pay offer from the Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff. 

    The union has described the new offer as "miserly". The ballot opens on Tuesday.

  14. GCSE results in West Yorkshire

    Thousands of teenagers across West Yorkshire have been nervously opening their GCSE results today.

    These students from Leeds City College's 14+ Academy look pretty pleased with their results...

    Figures across the country show there's been a 2% drop in the number of pupils awarded A-star to C grades. That's down from 69% in 2015 to 67% this year.

  15. Leeds festival traffic plan in place

    Just a reminder about traffic on  the roads leading up to and around the Leeds festival

    If you';re travelling in the area, you can expect a busy A64, which will be shut to through traffic eastbound near Bramham Park from today until 05:00 on Friday.

    Festival-goers can also leave the A1(M) at junction 45 for Boston Spa and use local access roads to Bramham Park, Highways England said.

    Other drivers are advised to consider alternative routes or allow more time for their journey.

  16. Watch: Leeds carnival is almost here

    It's a busy weekend ahead in West Yorkshire, not only do we have the Festival to look forward to, but the Carnival is happening too.

    Thousands will flock to the city, with the parade taking place on Bank Holiday Monday. It's said to generate almost £4m.

    But never mind all that boring money stuff, here's a flavour of all the sights and sounds of the Carnival!
