Machine will 'wheel new bridge into place'

BBC News
Building a new railway bridge alongside an existing one is an unusual approach but that was one of the only solutions to replacing a crumbling structure on the London line in Norwich.
Engineers will close the line between Norwich and Ipswich in the early hours of Saturday until Tuesday at about 04:00 while they dismantle the old bridge, and literally wheel the next one in place using the machine shown below.
Our pictures also show the bridge construction in the week leading up to the replacement operation.

New rail bridge will 'slide' into place over the weekend
Patrick Byrne
BBC News
The main railway line to London will be shut for three days from 02:00 on Saturday for a new bridge to be moved into place on the outskirts of Norwich city centre.
Sally BeadleCopyright: Sally Beadle
The new bridge has been built alongside the crumbling old one at the bottom of Long John Hill. This is to be demolished over the weekend and the replacement "will slide" into place on wheels, engineers said.
The road has been closed to cars since May last year and a diversion has been in place for 15 months.
Trains have had to run slower during that time over the bridge which had to be shored up because it was crumbling. Buses will replace the train service over the three-day shut down.
