  4. Labour conference in Liverpool set to go ahead

    Labour's party conference in Liverpool looks set to go ahead next month after a row over security was resolved.

    question mark had been hanging over the annual gathering after G4S said it was now too late for it to step in and organise protection arrangements.

    Labour's general secretary Iain McNicol said OCS Group, the "existing provider of security services at ACC Liverpool", will now carry out the task of providing security at the conference.

    Services on that line will now start and terminate at Formby.

    Sefton Council says thousands of people have responded to a consultation about what the borough should look like in 2030.

    Throughout June and July, over 3,500 people living and working in Sefton gave feedback on a range of topics including tourism, jobs and transport. 

    The council says the views will be used to help shape the future of the borough and guide its long term plans.

    Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said the party's conference in Liverpool next month will "go ahead" despite issues around security for the event

    He told reporters the party were "sorting out the security arrangements".

    Asked if the provider would be Showsec - a firm opposed by the GMB over union recognition - Mr Corbyn said the party would "announce it when the decision's been made".

  14. Man found dead in Formby fire was 'pleasure to be around'

    A man whose body was found after a blaze that killed a number of horses was a "pleasure to be around", his family has said in a tribute.

    Andrew Coogan, also known as Coogy, was found in stables at Shorrocks Hill Country Club in Lifeboat Road, Formby, yesterday.

    He had been with the horses in a stable which destroyed in the fire.

    A statement from the family said: "Coogy was loved by his family... he helped so many people along the way and was a pleasure to be around."

  16. Spirit of Rio in Liverpool as Brazil-themed parade arrives in city

    Liverpool is celebrating the return of Olympians arrive back on British soil with a Brazil-themed parade in the city centre.

    A carnival band and Samba dancers paraded through Liverpool One - but don't worry if you missed it as there is second parade at 16:00.

    It starts in Paradise Street and will pass through to Paradise Place to South John Street where there will be a red, white and blue confetti finale.

  17. Have you seen missing St Helens man Darren Hillman?

    Police are appealing for help finding a missing St Helens man.

    Darren Hillman, 27

    Darren Hillman, 27, who is originally from Wigan, was last seen at around 09:00 today on Peasley Cross Lane and has not been seen or heard from since. 

    Extensive inquiries have been ongoing to locate him.

    He is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, with brown hair and of medium build. He also has a scar to the left side of his head. 

    Members of the public are advised not to approach Darren, but to contact police if they see him.

  18. Rugby League: Boost for Wolves as Joe Westerman ruled fit for final

    Warrington have been given a boost with the news that loose forward Joe Westerman is fit for Saturday's Challenge Cup final against his former club Hull FC at Wembley.
