  1. Five things we learned today

    Nick Wilmshurst

    BBC Local Live, Leeds

That's it from me, I'll be back from 08:00 tomorrow with more news, sport, weather and travel.

Before I go, here's five things we didn't know this morning:

    1. The cool kids that went to the Leeds Festival are a messy lot.
    2. And I mean, really really messy.
    3. Even international rock stars slum it sometimes.
    4. If you're crossing the road in Horsforth, make sure you have a good look both ways first
    5. Bored in Leeds city centre? Why not have a game of Blockbusters?

    See you tomorrow!

    Blockbusters
  2. Weather: Dry tonight cloudier tomorrow

Dry and sunny this evening. Turning cloudy later. Minimum temperature 13C (55F).

    Weather

Tomorrow we can expect a cloudy morning with patchy rain or drizzle spreading south-eastwards; dry and turning much brighter with some sunshine through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 20C (60F).

  3. Teenager and two men arrested over Leeds shooting

Two men and a teenage boy have been arrested over one of two shootings in Leeds over the weekend.

A 19-year-old was found with a bullet in his neck near the Reginald Centre on Chapeltown Road late on Sunday night.

Detectives say he was shot at some nearby shops and have carried out forensic tests in the area.

Police say a 17-year-old boy along with two men who are 20 and 21 have now been released on bail.

Officers are still investigating a second shooting at the Nitetrax nightclub which happened just over an hour later.

  4. CCTV released of robbers who injured 61-year-old

CCTV images have been released of men who are suspected of violently robbing a 61-year-old woman in her own home.

    CCTV

The victim was attacked at her home in Pudsey between 15:00 and 15:30 last Friday by three men. They entered through patio doors which were open and threatened her with a knife.

She was punched and kicked leaving her with fractures to both sides of her jaw, a fractured wrist and cuts to her arms.

The men stole a large amount of gold jewellery.

Quote Message: This was a really cowardly attack that left the victim and her family badly traumatised and we urgently need to identify the men responsible. from Det Sgt Andy Farrell West Yorkshire Police

  5. Are you sitting comfortably?

Getting a seat on a train can sometimes be a bit tricky, but today a train operator was in West Yorkshire asking its passengers to try out some brand new seats.

Well, if you use Northern, you're going to get a say in what kind of seat they stick into their new trains. They've been at Leeds station today with some of the options.

I notice that none of them come with cup holders or one of those built in massager things...

  6. I'll have a P please Bob

If you work for the BBC in Leeds you're always on duty, and as I walked around town this lunchtime I noticed the new tiles going up on the new John Lewis building.

    Blockbusters blank

I thought "Hang on a minute, that looks remarkably like the board used in Blockbusters."

    So I made it.

    Blockbusters filled

    You're welcome.

  7. Illegal UK entry arrests total 850 in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire Police has arrested 850 people suspected of illegally entering Britain over the past three years, a BBC investigation has found.

    Illegal immigrants

Many were found hidden in lorries. Nationally the figure stands at more than 27,000.

The haulage industry says migrants in Calais are becoming increasingly desperate to break into lorries bound for the UK.

Quote Message: As part of the ongoing action we are taking to secure our borders, we have invested tens of millions of pounds to bolster security at ports in northern France. We are also committed to finding long-term solutions to the problem of illegal migration, which is why we created the Organised Immigration Crime Taskforce last year." from Home Office statement

  8. Call for more council housing in Leeds

There are new calls for more council houses to be built in Leeds.

A Labour councillor says that more people need council houses than there are homes available.

    Houses

It comes as BBC Radio Leeds has found out that 24,000 people are on the waiting list in the city - with 1,500 waiting on it for at least 10 years.

The council says it does try to house people in a "timely manner" and people do have to actively bid for houses they want to live in.

  9. Firefighters 'save 36 lives' in one bungalow fire

    How cute is this!

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at a bungalow in Dewsbury yesterday, no people were hurt and these three kittens were saved, so in effect that's 36 lives!

  10. Travel update: Rail delays because of freight train fire

    BBC Travel

There are long delays on trains between Leeds and London because a freight train is on fire

It means trains can't run between Retford and Doncaster.

There may be delays until at least six o'clock tonight.

  11. Watch: Sea of empty tents at Leeds Festival site

Earlier I was telling you about all the wellies that were left in Leeds city centre after the festival, well that's nothing compared to what's been left at Bramham Park itself!

A charity that supports refugees is appealing for help to clear up and salvage items from the Leeds Festival. Thousands of items including tents and sleeping bags have been left at Bramham Park.

Just look at what people have left there!

  12. One-third 'given wrong initial heart attack diagnosis'

Researchers at the University of Leeds say almost a third of patients in England and Wales are being given the wrong initial diagnosis after a heart attack - with women having a far higher chance of being affected.

    heart attack

Researchers examined NHS data on about 600,000 heart attack cases over a period of nine years.

Women were 50% more likely than men to have an initial diagnosis different from their final diagnosis, it said.

NHS England said it was working to improve the diagnosis of heart attacks.

  13. Leeds Festival drug death: Friends pay tribute to Lewis Haunch

Friends of a 17-year-old who died after taking drugs at Leeds Festival have said they don't want him to be remembered for how he died.

    Lewis Haunch

Lewis Haunch collapsed at the event and was pronounced dead in hospital shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Two 17-year-old boys held in Greater Manchester on suspicion of drugs offences have been released on bail.

Erica McGuinness, a friend, said: "All his close friends will remember him for the fun person that he was."

  14. Jason Gillespie: Departing Yorkshire head coach would consider return

    BBC West Yorkshire Sport

Yorkshire head coach Jason Gillespie is open to the possibility of returning to the club in the future after announcing his decision to leave on Sunday.

    Jason Gillespie

Gillespie took charge of Yorkshire in 2011, but is returning to his native Australia to be closer to his family.

The 41-year-old took the county from the second division to consecutive County Championship titles.

"Who knows what will happen in the future? I wouldn't say no moving forward," he said.

  15. Lorry drove wrong way around Cambridgeshire roundabout

A lorry driver from Castleford drove the wrong way around a roundabout in a manoeuvre described by a former traffic officer as "extremely dangerous".

Video caption: Heavy goods lorry goes wrong way on A14 roundabout.

The incident involving a Turners of Soham lorry was recorded on a dashcam near Bar Hill in Cambridgeshire.

No vehicles were hit but former police officer Tony Barrios said it "could have been tragic".

The company said the fully-qualified "English national, ex-Army" driver was "clearly confused" and being retrained.

  16. Fire continues to burn after a week

Believe it or not, firefighters are still working on putting out a fire that started more than a week ago at a waste tip in Huddersfield.

    Waste fire

Rubbish is being moved around the site on Queens Mill Road in Lockwood to allow firefighters to reach areas still burning.

Kirklees Council has apologised to people living nearby for the smoke and the smell.

  17. Chili Peppers star's favourite tracks

You see all sorts of people at Leeds station, I once saw Alan Bennett there...

But I've never seen an international rock star. Look, it's Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers!

I'm a bit confused as to why he was getting the train, surely they have a tour bus at the very least!

    BBC Travel

We're experiencing some big problems on the A1(M) at J35 in both directions this morning. There's been a serious accident and although it's happened in South Yorkshire, it's having a knock-on effect in West Yorkshire.

This is the queue just after J38 southbound.
